I was just checking in to see if anything new. We have not heard anything. I just wish there could be closure, but most families are still looking and I never hear of her family asking questions. I would be all over this internet, so it makes me wonder if they know something? If they are reading, i'm not trying to talk behind your back....I did call, and her sister was not very helpful and did not ask for any help so they have to remember, we may not be family, but we want closure on this as well...Thank you and anyone with information, no matter how little, please let us know. I was going to see if anything on Facebook but there are so many with this name...Maybe there is missing in Tennessee!
I have been waiting for 31 years for any info on this case. I worked with Jennifer and we were called the day her drivers license was found. Have never heard anything else. Looking back on it, the whole case was a travesty. If there is more info, I don't know it. There was a private investigator on the case that was using her car. He was later murdered. Always wondered if there was a connection.
I just wanted to clear up a few things (hopefully). I was at the party that Jennifer went to the night before she disappeared. She wasn't there with two black men as someone earlier suggested. She came by herself and left by herself if I remember correctly. It was a party to celebrate the Budweiser Softball league of the apartment association for apartments in the area of which hers and my apartments at the time were associated with.
Nobody ever saw her after the party. Her car was found in front of her apartment with her purse and keys still in it. At least that is what the police told us at the time. They questioned a lot of people including my sister who was head of the softball league. After all these years, my memory is fuzzy. The clearest memory I have of the entire incident is seeing her in the bathroom at the party for just a few minutes and saying hi to her image in the mirror. That image will haunt me forever.
I had known Jennifer since the 5th grade but at the time of her disappearance was only an acquaintance. She was a beautiful and lovely young woman and even though I'd like to think that for some unknown reason she just took off with someone and started a new life, I believe she was probably killed that night. I don't think there was enough evidence for a Cold case investigation even though I wish they would do one. But without a body, what could they possibly do?
Thanks for your insight. It may not look like a lot but there should have been plenty to look into, which I hope LE did. Was anything amiss in her apartment? Did it look like she made it back at all, was anything sitting out that would indicate interruption (ie cup of coffee, water being boiled). What about the car, was the seat in the correct position for her height? Where was the drivers license found, and if it was in a strange place was there a search done in that area? Scent dogs used at all? Just some thoughts for a cold case unit to investigate if one were ever formed.
Everything is MOO and I am always willing to be wrong!
October 2013 marked 60 years since Evelyn Hartley's violent kidnapping while babysitting.
We need fresh eyes in the case - please visit us in Evelyn's thread!
Her license were found in the winter, February, of the following year. Her purse was all that was missing I was told. Her bed had not been slept in. I remember a long fingernail on the coffee table. Went to her apartment a few days after she disappeared. My boss called to check on her not being at work on Monday and her family didn't seem to know that she was gone. Private investigator drove her Trans AM during the investigation. Very strange. He was the step father of a guy she was dating some.
Tomorrow is the 32nd anniversary of Jennifer's disappearance. Her family deserves closure!
Thinking of Jennifer and her loved ones this week.
Here a , there a , everywhere a
Another heartwrenching case that may never be solved. I just hope that Jennifer's loved ones have some small measure of comfort in that there are people out here who never knew her but will not forget her.
Something that caught my attention...and it's probably nothing. However, as you all know, China Videon disappeared from Murfreesboro on Oct 19, 1999. I've read that her car was found in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Harding Road. Does anyone know if this is the same complex or if it is near what was the Tanglewood complex? If so, these cases are nineteen years apart but what are the odds? Probably nothing though.
I'll be in Nashville in November and plan on visiting the site. Any local intel is greatly appreciated.
The quickest way to become a fool is to argue with one..
I saw this post and maybe it was typed wrong (i'm trying to see if ever posted here) but the 2 guys mentioned I don't think anyone ever said she came in with those 2 guys...A few people saw her talking to them and the ones that said that went on with what they were doing and never saw her again so they thought maybe she left with them...I heard she came in alone but not sure since I never talked to anyone who saw her leave. Thanks for info!
beachcares2...The car I was referring to belonged to teenager China Videon, who disaappered from Murfreesboro in 1999. It was found at "an apartment complex off Harding Rd" about three months after she disappeared. I was just wondering what apartment complex? The Tanglewood Apartments where Jennifer Wyant disappeared from I believe is now Whispering Oaks, off Harding. My thought was, how close to the old Tanglewood Apartments was China's car found? What are the chances that a missing girl's car - from 25 miles away - is found very close to where another girl disappeared, albeit 19 years before? Let me qualify by saying that I am not from Nashville, have only been down this stretch of Harding Road once or twice, and I know there are a lot of apartments and homes in this area. I'm also retired 20+ years law enforcement and I know that chances are very likely that there is no connection. But I always start with that old premise that "there ain't no such thing as a coincidence."

Jennifer lived on Harding Place. This ran off of Interstate 24E. If China Videon's car was found on Harding Road, this is West Nashville. That is the only Harding Road that I know of.
These are two completely different locations unless I am mistaken. 24 runs toward Chattanooga, TN and Harding Road runs west toward Memphis.
Does anyone know WHERE her drivers license was found?
Did she live alone?
How far was the party from where she lived?
Jennifer's license were found around Nolensville area. I worked with her at the time and the person that found them called our office loooking for her. I understood that they were found by a contractor that was maybe building a home in that area. Our boss went out there and we were told it was around the Rutherford-Davidson County line. I also think maybe this was under developed area. They searced a pond I believe. I understood that nothing else was found. At the time, I believe her purse was missing with her. I have read on here that her purse was in her car, but I don't think so. Maybe some other ID or something found with her license.
She lived alone and hadn't lived there a very long time. The party wasn't too far away, I don't think. She told us on Friday that she was going to this party. Sure would love to see the end to this mystery.
I wonder if she took her car to the party... it would be interesting to know if she drove it back home or if the car was at her complex all day...
Jennifer's car was parked across two parking spaces. She was very proud of that car and hadn't had it a long time. I feel like she parked it, since it was parked like that. It was one of those black trans ams with the big bird on the hood. Very popular back then. I think she came home and left with someone she knew or was taken in the parking lot after she got home.
I really appreciate the clarification of Harding Place verses Harding Road. However, the Oct 17, 2012 Murfreesboro Post reports that China's car was found "at an apartment complex of Harding Road in Antioch." That would actually be Harding Place. My map search does not turn up a Harding "Road", unless Harding Pike is also known as Harding Road. But Harding Pike is West End-Belle Meade-Bellevue. So to me, the last traces of both Jennifer and China are in Antioch, off Harding Place. Does that makes sense? Also, would you happen to know if my assumption regarding the Tanglewood Apartments now being Whispering Oaks is correct?
Thanks again for your reply. It is useful in this forum to be able to communicate with someone who knew the victim. Hope you don't mind me bothering you with questions. I'm going to be in Nashville again soon and plan to visit the area.
You are right, Cornfed. Antioch is definitely Harding Place. Didn't realize Harding Pike is what I was referring to as Harding Road. Just knew it was West Nashville, Bellevue area. When she disappeared, they were very strange things happening I think. First of all, there was a PI working on the case. Supposedly, the stepfather of a guy she was dating. He drove her Trans Am while he supposedly investigated. He came to our work and questioned several of his. He questioned me and asked if I got suggestive(sexual) calls late at night.. At the time, I was single and three years older than Jennifer. Believe it or not, that same night I started getting hang up calls between 1 and 2 in the morning. Went on about 2 weeks. He also told things that we didn't believe were true about coworkers and their families. We were told the case got cold because the police didn't want to get involved because of him. He was murdered execution style in the same area a few years later. Right over the hill closer to Harding Place exit. Working as a security guard at the time. I think she went to the party by herself and left by herself.
Wow, that IS a strange tale. Hmm, how'd the guy get possession of her vehicle? Was it ever processed by the PD? Hard to believe that they would drag their feet on this one given the number of high profile rapes and homicides that had occurred in the mid to lates seventies there. Do you know if there were any coordinated searches for Jennifer? Has the family been outspoken and has there been any substantive media coverage in the ensuing years? Sorry for all the questions. If this "PI" had anything to do with her disappearance, the secret to the case would seem to be forever lost. Was his murder ever solved?
No to everything that I'm aware of. It was put to me that her parents were so distraught that he came forward or they turned to him. Why he drove her car, I don't know. It seemed he was fly by night if you know what I mean. There was never a search or vigil or anything that I'm aware of. Don't think I ever saw it on the news. Read it in the paper a couple of times. And then, it was along with other Nashville Missing. Not sure if there was a headline about her or not. Don't think so. I worked at the same place until 1999 and we never heard anything positive about the investigation. It just kind of died down. My boss talked to her several times, but no news. She didn't collect her life insurance till many years later. Remember the movie " Walking Tall"? It was about Buford Pusser, McNairy County Sheriff. He was killed in a car crash. His mother thought he was murdered. Well, we heard that this same PI beat his mother out of a lot of money. Jennifer is the person that has been missing the longest on the Metro Nashville Police Department Website. Sorry, my boss spoke with her mother several times.
Wow, that is creepy and seems like a rather irrelevant question to ask.
Do you know if Jennifer had been getting those sorts of calls prior to her disappearance? The only reason I can possibly think of for him to ask you that, is if Jennifer was getting calls and he thought they might be work related.
Otherwise, my hinky meter is up.
Man, what a shame for this girl. I would hope that someone there is clamoring for the cold case guys to take a look at it. Maybe they have and there's just nothing. But if that's the case, then publicity is the best tool they have. I wonder if her parents are still living. And I wonder if the PD would finance a billboard campaign. I have a daughter about the same age Jennifer was when she disappeared. Very sad.
I did some research and it appears that his murder was solved. They presumed robbery to be a motive and the suspect was incarcerated. This was in 1986 so I doubt the murder of the PI was any connection to Jennifer's disappearance, although that doesn't rule out the possibility that the PI himself was.
Here's a little more info on the PI, who was also involved with the highly publicized Buford Pusser case.
Thanks so much Odyssey for the info on Britt. Obviously you are much better than me at this. I have tried to research Larry Britt many times and couldn't find anything about his murder or remember when it was. Heard it on the radio on my way to work one morning. I have found Audrey Wyant on the white pages in Hermitage, TN. That was her Mother's name. She had a sister named Susan. Didn't really know them. Her mom and dad were divorced. He was named Dale Wyant. Still wonder about the girl that was found in Cheatham County, TN in October 1981. Says she's between 14 and 20 with brown hair. I guess it's been ruled out but sure does sound like it could be Jennifer. The reconstruction of the face reminds me of Jennifer's. That girl has never been identified. Seems strange to me. Cheatham County is not that far from Nashville. Jennifer was working hard to better herself. She worked full time and went to Nashville State at night. She hadn't been in that apartment long. She had bought furniture and that Trans Am. She had been engaged and they had broken up. His name was Jody. The stepson of the PI was named Rusty. There just didn't seem to be anything done back then. But, that's my side. I don't know what was actually done but I didn't see it. Wondered why it was never telecast to bring attention.
