This is the Babcock murder trial discussion thread.

A few general reminders about the trial:

Any testimony that might remain under Publication Ban, and/or any courtroom discussion that takes place when the jury is not present, is strictly off-limits.

Only testimony that is published through MSM reporting (newspaper articles, tweets, tv) is allowed. Provide a source link, and keep discussion focused on testimony as it becomes public knowledge.

The magnificent principle of “innocent until proven guilty” is for the court room … it is not required that the general public / Websleuths members adhere to that principle. Members are allowed to discuss, speculate, theorize, and judge according to opinions they develop from following the specifics of the case.

A few general reminders from Websleuths TOS aka The Rules.

At all times, remain VICTIM FRIENDLY. No bashing or passing judgment on the victim or family.

There is ZERO TOLERANCE for snarky or disrespectful posts. Don’t expect an explanation … you will find your post has simply disappeared, or that you can no longer post.

There is to be NO name calling or name variations, not even of the accused.

BICKERING between members is not allowed. If you disagree, that's fine, say so and move past the post. If a post is offensive, alert it and let the Mods review it. If you respond to the post, both the offensive post AND yours will be removed and may result in other consequences.

Alert on a post and move on without discussing it, and don't question the decisions of our Mods/Admin or Owner. Also do not expect personalized responses with explanations about a particular decision.

Do not abuse the WS Alert feature. Abuse includes, but is not limited to:
• Overuse of the alert system
• Repeatedly alerting on the same poster
• Demanding a specific outcome
• Alerting on the same post more than once

If you have any questions, use the Alert feature or send a PM and we will be happy to assist.

Laura Babcock's red Roots duffel bag was seized during a police search of Mark Smich's home. (Court exhibit)

A bright red Roots duffel bag with Laura Babcock's name and address handwritten on a little white ID tag was found in the bedroom of accused killer Mark Smich.

Toronto police forensics officer, Kim Seguin, who seized the bag brought it into the courtroom and held it up for jury members this morning, at the ongoing trial into Babcock's alleged murder.

Linda Babcock, Laura's mother, reached for tissues and wiped away tears at the sight of her daughter's bag.

Eight more people are expected in the witness box over the next few days, as the Laura Babcock murder trial enters its third week.

More than two dozen have already been called by the prosecution, as it attempts to prove Dellen Millard, 32, of Toronto and Mark Smich, 30, of Oakville, Ont., killed Babcock in early July 2012.

Both men have pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.

Guessing today's witnesses will be officers who searched DM residences?

Good morning, week three at the Laura Babcock murder trial is about to get underway. Justice Michael Code has told us to expect another eight witnesses over the next few days.

Last week we heard from three police officers who carried out a couple of searches at co-accused Mark Smich's home.

Thanks to all that can help with the tweets. :cupcake:

Justice Michael Code is here, but the jury is not just yet. They are talking about some legal matters. Once the jury arrives, we'll get blogging.

The jury is here. Justice Michael Code apologizes for the delay, tells them there was some "housekeeping matters" to tend to.

Crown Ken Lockhart calls Detective Constable Andrew Ottay.
by Shannon Martin 10:21 AM

He's been with the Hamilton Police Service for 22 years, the majority of time with forensic services.

He was part of search warrant executed on May 11, 2013, at a house in Etobicoke, where the jury has previously heard Millard was living at the time.

I see that Lisa Hepfner is live tweeting today too, that's awesome!!

Ottay's role was to take photographs, before the police search and during.

He's brought a large bound document, that Crown Lockhart is now handing out to the jury.

Hopefully someone can help with the tweets. I have to go soon.
