State Police Continue Searching for Two People Missing in Missaukee County

State police say they’re missing and could be in danger.

Troopers are looking for Alexandria Foust and Jeff Hurley.

With more snow moving in, state police say time is a factor.

Foust and Hurley were last seen in Moorestown, near Dead Stream Swamp in Missaukee County.

Troopers found their belongings there.

Foust is 5’5”, weighs 130 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Hurley is 5’10”, 195 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

If you have any information at all on where these two might be call the state police post in Houghton Lake.

Current search for man and woman missing in Northern Michigan woods suspended

<snipped>

Given the length of the four-day search and the inclement weather -- four inches of snow and extreme cold surged into the area Thursday -- police decided to suspended the current search efforts late Friday.

Police expect aviation and tracking dog searches to resume at a later date.

State police are asking hunters in the area for firearms deer hunting, beginning Nov. 15, to be on the lookout for any evidence of the two people. If any is found, police say not to disturb the evidence and call them at 989-422-5101.

We now know their vehicle was stuck in the mud, but no further info on what their relationship is or why they were up there in the first place...

oh no
so they must've left the vehicle but where could they have gone?
tried to seek shelter or hike for help?

A witness said they saw the couple driving the vehicle into the area, which investigators found was stuck in the mud.

On Nov. 9, search teams confirmed the couple’s presence in the area from multiple personal items found by canine teams. However, the Hurley and Foust were not found from these efforts.
After considering the search area, inclement weather, and efforts being exhausted from media, investigators, aviation, canine, and foot search teams, the search and rescue plan ended at nightfall on Nov. 10.

With deer season opening Nov. 15, hunters are asked to stay vigilant for Hurley, Foust, or any evidence that might lead to their whereabouts.

Searchers reported finding articles of their clothing, including hats. That is not a good sign at all with temps being down in the single digits.

Shortly before death from lethal hypothermia, the person will remove all their clothes, as if they were burning up, when in fact they are freezing. (not to go into great medical detail but it is based on the effect of a cold induced paralysis of the nerves in the vessel wells which lease to vasoconstriction and a resultant feeling of warmth) Because of this, people who have frozen to death are often found naked and are misidentified as victims of a violent crime. (Pardoxical undressing).

Once they've undressed, the dying person will frequently try to crawl into a small, enclosed space. (terminal burrowing). For which reason, victims of hypothermia are often found naked, squeezed into cupboards or beneath beds and usually a fair distance from where their clothing was shed.

No. The information that is in the article is pretty much word for word what Michigan State Police provided to the media.

I guess the only hope of finding them alive is if the found a cabin to break into for shelter (unless they staged their disappearance).

I don't have a good feeling about this one. :notgood:

I hope they found a way to stay warm.

(unless they staged their disappearance).

After seeing their records, that thought crossed my mind also.
I have several questions about this. Not sure what all I can ask here though...

"State police said that Hurley, 34 of Prudenville, and Foust, 19, of Cadillac, were reported missing on Nov. 7 in Norwich Township in Missaukee County. That day hunters found a vehicle and personal belongings from the two missing subjects on a gas pipeline in Norwich Township of Missaukee County. A witness reported seeing the couple driving the vehicle into the area on Nov. 7. The vehicle was stuck in mud at the time of its discovery."

On a gas pipeline? What does that mean?
