Tips from informants helped police locate Holt after a four-day search for him was prolonged by conflicting narratives told by the suspect's mother about when she had last seen her son, officials said.

A SWAT team arrested Holt in Pittsburgh in late November and he's being held in a Pennsylvania correctional facility. His mother has been charged with hindering his apprehension.

Good to see his mother charged. Too often those who provide false information are not prosecuted. jmo

... and now the dad:

Accused cop killer Rahmael Sal Holt's father will stand trial for allegedly assaulting a woman who gave police a tip leading to the arrest of Holt for killing New Kensington Patrolman Brian Shaw.

Charges of witness intimidation, strangulation, assault and harassment were held to court Wednesday against Gregory Paul Baucum, 47, of Victoria Avenue, Arnold.

Baucum surrendered to Pittsburgh police on Nov. 22.

Baucum remains in the Westmoreland County Prison awaiting trial. He has been held without bond since then because a district judge ruled Baucum posed a risk to the community.

Jurors acquit father of man accused of killing New Kensington cop in assault, witness intimidation case

June 8, 2018

"...Gregory Baucum, 47, testified Friday during the second day of his trial that he never attacked and choked his girlfriend, as she claimed. Rather, he was trying to persuade her to have sex, he told jurors.

A Westmoreland County jury deliberated for a little more than an hour Friday before acquitting Baucum of all charges — strangulation, simple assault, two counts of retaliation against a witness and witness intimidation...."

Ban Sought On Marriage To Witness In New Kensington Officer’s Slaying Case

"...The Valley News Dispatch reports Westmoreland County prosecutors filed documents on Wednesday to halt any nuptials of 30-year-old Rahmael Sal Holt to his girlfriend. The girlfriend testified in a previous hearing that she drove Holt to different locations after the Nov. 17 shooting death of 25-year-old New Kensington officer Brian Shaw.

Prosecutors say a marriage may be an attempt to keep her from testifying at trial..."

Woman Sentenced To Prison For Hindering Arrest Of Alleged Cop Killer (with clip)

October 19, 2018

"GREENSBURG (KDKA) — A woman who hindered the capture of a man who allegedly killed a police officer was in court Friday.

Suspect Lakita Cain was optimistic as she faced sentencing for trying to throw investigators off the trail of accused cop killer Rahmael Sal Holt....

Instead of letting Cain out on 11 months time served, Judge Rita Hathaway went outside sentencing guidelines.

“She got three to seven years for it,” Veltri said. “She’s pretty upset. We didn’t expect it.”...

Facing capital murder, Holt’s trial is tentatively set for April 1."

Rahmael Holt’s cousin guilty of hindering arrest after shooting of New Kensington officer

March 7, 2019

"A 30-year-old Duquesne man accused of helping Rahmael Sal Holt escape arrest following the November 2017 shooting death of a New Kensington police officer was convicted Thursday of hindering apprehension in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court.

Judge Kevin G. Sasinoski found Holt’s cousin, Marcel R. Mason, guilty of the third-degree felony following a one-day non-jury trial, according to the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office.

Holt, 30, is scheduled to go on trial in Westmoreland County in August for first-degree murder in the killing of officer Brian Shaw. Shaw was gunned down Nov. 17, 2017, following a traffic stop on Leishman Avenue in New Kensington....

Mason, Mason’s girlfriend, Aysa R. Benson, 31, and Holt’s mother, Sherry Holt, 48, both of Pittsburgh, were arrested by the county sheriff’s department for allegedly providing police false information about Holt’s whereabouts after the shooting.

Benson and Sherry Holt are both tentatively scheduled for trial June 27, according to online dockets.

After convicting Mason, Sasinoski revoked Mason’s nominal bond and ordered him held in the county jail on $100,000 bail pending sentencing June 4.

Under state law, the maximum penalty he could receive is up to seven years in prison and a $15,000 fine.

Westmoreland County prosecutors said they will seek the death penalty against Holt."

Benson and Sherry Holt are both tentatively scheduled for trial June 27, according to online dockets.

Arnold woman who missed court date related to New Kensington cop killing turns herself in

March 20, 2019

"It turns out, an Arnold woman likely wasn’t on the lam when she failed to appear in court for a hearing earlier this week.

She just didn’t know when she was supposed to be in court.

Lisa Harrington, 33, told a judge she believed her hearing on Monday had been scheduled for another day, said Westmoreland County Assistant District Attorney Jim Lazar....

The judge initially said Harrington would be detained and held in jail until her trial. According to court records, though, Hathaway on Tuesday decided to allow Harrington to remain free on $75,000 bond.

Lazar said Harrington is almost nine months pregnant...."

"The estranged father of a man accused of killing New Kensington police Officer Brian Shaw in 2017 was arrested Thursday and accused of sending messages to a witness in his son’s case, authorities said.
