Stash Of Human Body Parts At Farm Leads To Arrest Of Couple In North Carolina

SELMA, N.C. (AP) -- Investigators looking for a missing man discovered a stash of decomposing human body parts, possibly belonging to two people, and arrested a couple who live in a nearby farm house.

Police were looking for Caesar Ruvalcava Ortiz after receiving a tip that someone had been killed on the farm in August 1997, Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell said.
Deputies searched the property Saturday and found plastic bags of decomposing body parts, Bizzell said Sunday. He said investigators suspect that at least some of the remains are those of Ruvalcava.

Robert Bruce Pollard, 34, was charged Saturday with first-degree murder and his wife, Cecilia Louise Pollard, 34, was charged with being an accessory to murder.

Couple Arrested After Stash Of Human Body Parts Found

Bizzell said Ruvalcava and his girlfriend, Robin Clark -- a relative of Louise Pollard -- often stayed with the Pollards in 1997. Relatives reported Clark missing in August 1997, when she was 17, said Ronnie Stewart, chief of operations for the Wake County Sheriff's Department.

    Snip

Sheriff Steve Bizzell said investigators were looking for a man named Caesar Ruvalcava Ortiz after receiving a tip last Friday that someone had been killed on the farm property in August 1997.

Deputies searched the property last Saturday and found plastic bags of decomposing body parts. A local medical examiner said the remains might be of two people.

Investigators suspect that at least some of the remains are those of Ruvalcava.

Just when I think that I have seen the most depraved things a human can do to another human, somebody posts a new story...........

Why is it that when a custodial parent fails to provide for a child it is called neglect and is a criminal matter. But when a non custodial parent fails to provide it is called failure to support and is a civil matter?

They are saying they think that some of the remains are of Ruvalcava, but they aren't mentioning Robin Clark who was Ruvalcava's girlfriend, and who went missing in 1997. She was only 17.
I don't understand. Why would someone put some human remains in a freezer and bury it, and yet have more remains sitting around in plastic bags? Since 1997?

Does anyone else think that Bruce has a resemblence to Duncan? Even the look in his eyes reminds me of Duncan.

Tests Confirm Remains Belong To Missing Woman

SMITHFIELD, N.C. - Lab tests have confirmed that some human remains found at a Selma farm belong to a woman who has been missing for almost nine years, authorities said Wednesday. Authorities found two batches of decomposed body parts near a Johnston County farmhouse over the weekend, following a tip that the farm was linked to an August 1997 slaying.

Evidence from the crime scene was sent to LabCorp in Research Triangle Park for DNA analysis and was compared to DNA submitted by the mother of Robin Clark, who has been missing since 1997, authorities said. The DNA analysis showed that the remains belonged to Clark.

    and

Relatives reported Clark missing on Aug. 9, 1997, when she was 17 years old. She was related to Louise Pollard and often stayed with the couple, authorities said.

Authorities are waiting for medical records from Mexico to determine if other remains belong to Clark's boyfriend, Caesar Ruvalcava Ortiz....

Read this thread as a result of the "similar threads" link at the bottom of another case.

It hasn't been updated since 2/2006, but I found some slightly newer info on this.
It isn't really "good" news at all. The boyfriend (Ortiz) was also killed and dismembered. And the couple got off on very light punishment. They may be free as we speak!

"Killers' Sentences Leave Victims' Families Shocked"
States that Ortiz (Clark's b/f) was killed by Mr Pollard in self-defense. Also states that Clark herself committed suicide. A jury trial was avoided because the attorney's thought it would bring a lower sentence because the Pollards' kids died in a house fire(?).

    OK...
Juries think that if your children die early that you should be allowed to kill other relatives?
You killed a guy in self defense.
    Your niece killed herself.
So you chop them both up and KEEP their remains for a decade?

"Autopsy: Johnston Couple Shot Before Being Cut Up, Burned"
This story explains a little more about the case. Autopsies show that both were shot before being dismembered (how kind!). Also states that both deaths are considered homicides.
