If Darlene Wright was seen leaving her apt. with a rolled up carpet, cement blocks and garbage bags it doesn't sound like she was headed to the land fill to me...sounds like she was headed to the water. I wonder if she was trying to throw LE off by saying she threw a carpet into a dumpster. You don't need cement blocks or plastic garbage bags for a dumpster.

Alleged Murderer Met VanderGiesens Before Arrest
Today as they gathered photos to use at their daughter's funeral, the parents of murdered Sioux Falls woman Darlene VanderGiesen opened up.
...They've received an overwhelming amount of support when they learned their daughter was missing and even more after they learned she was murdered. And one of those people initially offering support was VanderGiesen's accused killer Daphne Wright.
For the VanderGiesens, preparing for their daughter's funeral is a struggle in itself — even more so knowing they may have embraced their daughter's killer shortly after she did it.
...When the alert went out that 42-year-old Darlene VanderGiesen was missing, accused murderer Daphne Wright approached Dee VanderGiesen. She was there to introduce herself.
“And give me a hug and then step back and say: 'I'm really sorry your daughter is missing. I'll be praying for you.' And then leave a few minutes later. And I thought she was sincere,” Dee VanderGiesen says.

Around forty people had been out searching the landfill for the past couple of days, and today, sadly, they found what they were looking for. Vandergeisen had been missing since February 1st.
A police spokesman said they still can't say how Darlene VanderGiesen was murdered. After finding body parts Saturday in the city landfill, though, they have a better idea of how she was disposed.
"We know there was some level of dismemberment," Officer Loren McManus said.

Sioux Falls Police now believe 42-year-old Darlene VanderGiesen was murdered, that a deaf woman is responsible and a love triangle is at the center of it.
Police arrested 42-year-old Daphne Wright this afternoon after DNA linked VanderGiesen's body to Wright's home on S. Phillips Ave. Wright admitted to police she thought her girlfriend of five years was having an affair with VanderGiesen.
Police believe Wright killed VanderGiesen in Wright’s basement late last week in a rage of jealousy.
...When they searched VanderGiesen's home, they found bed sheets missing and an obscene instant message on her computer from Daphne Wright.
On Tuesday police entered Wright's home at 1806 S. Phillips Ave. The stairs and a small room in the basement were freshly painted. In that room, police found what was later determined to be pieces of human bone, muscle, and fat.

Body Parts of Murdered Sioux Falls Woman Found in Rock County, Minnesota
Sioux Falls Police got a major break in the murder investigation of Darlene VanderGiesen Tuesday afternoon. You may remember VanderGiesen is the deaf Sioux Falls woman who disappeared February 1st. 42 year-old Daphne Wright is accused of killing VanderGiesen, cutting up her body, and throwing some of her remains in the Sioux Falls landfill.
Investigators say they think they found more body parts in southwest Minnesota. About 3:30 Tuesday afternoon a Rock County, Minnesota highway worker made the grisly discovery just north of Beaver Creek.
"Just the condition of the body, and based on the remains that we've already recovered and what we recovered today," is what Sioux Falls Police Captain Dave Kull said helped them make the connection between the remains and VanderGiesen.

This is what amazes me. This woman murdered Darlene because she thought her girlfriend was having an affair with her. As if by KILLING Darlene, her girlfriend would be impressed? Come back to her? What? How does that make any sense?

S.D. Woman Guilty in Dismemberment Case
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A woman accused of killing and dismembering her former lover's friend was convicted Thursday of premeditated murder and could become the state's first female defendant to face the death penalty.
Daphne Wright, 43, cried as the verdict was read.
The same jury that found her guilty after about seven hours of deliberations will consider whether to sentence her to death by lethal injection. Witnesses will begin testifying in that phase of the trial Tuesday.
Prosecutors said Wright was jealous of Darlene VanderGiesen, 42, because of her friendship with Wright's former lover. The jealousy turned to rage that drove Wright to kidnap VanderGiesen, kill her, cut apart the body with a chain saw and burn it in February 2006, according to the prosecution.
Remains were found in a Minnesota ditch and a Sioux Falls landfill. Wright, her former lover and VanderGiesen were deaf and knew each other through the deaf community.
