Body of San Jose woman found in San Francisco Bay

San Mateo (BCN) - A body discovered in the San Francisco Bay near the Coyote Point Marina in San Mateo on Saturday has been identified as 46-year-old San Jose resident Cindy Garrard, the San Mateo County Coroner's Office reported today.

A group of people on land called the Coast Guard at around noon Saturday, reporting what they thought was a body floating in the Bay, Petty Officer Josh Taylor said.

The Coast Guard is responsible for search and rescue operations, Taylor said, and does not usually respond to reports of bodies found.

However, since the shore-based observers could not confirm that the object they saw in the Bay was a body, the Coast Guard had to treat the call like a search and rescue, Taylor said. Although an autopsy on Garrard has already been completed, the coroner's office reported that her cause and time of death are pending further tests.

This young woman was adopted and trying to find her birth mother.
