CA - Mystery Over Spectacular Ferrari Crash Deepens, Malibu

Not sure if this is a crime or just a new story, but ... it's interesting!

Mystery Over Spectacular Ferrari Crash Deepens

MALIBU, Calif. (Feb. 28) - A rare, $1 million Ferrari that disintegrated in a spectacular crash last week was roaring along Pacific Coast Highway at 162 mph when it hit a bump in the road, launched into the air and slammed into a power pole, authorities said.

While that much is now known, sheriff's investigators still have lots of unanswered questions about last Tuesday's wreck.

They're trying to determine whether a gun magazine discovered near the wreckage is connected to the crash, and want to interview an unnamed person they believe was with Swedish game machine entrepreneur Stefan Eriksson in the red Ferrari Enzo.

Swedish entrepreneur Stefan Eriksson was found at the scene with a cut lip. He said he was a passenger and the driver had fled. A Scottish bank says it may own the car.

This picture came from that same article.
    Apparently the driver fled.

Me thinks his story stinks like Limburger cheese. It should be a simple enough matter to determine if he had been the driver. He had a cut lip and the only blood in the car was on the driver's side air bag. I hope they tested it.

    Ferrari crash story gets weirder...

    Wow!

    http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la...,1423392.story

As sheriff's detectives investigate last week's crash that destroyed a $1-million Ferrari, they are now looking into an obscure nonprofit organization that provides disabled people with transit in the San Gabriel Valley.

The car's owner, a former video game executive from Sweden, told Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies at the scene of the Feb. 21 accident in Malibu that he was deputy commissioner of the San Gabriel Valley Transit Authority's police anti-terrorism unit, detectives said Thursday.

A few minutes after the crash, two unidentified men arrived at the scene, flashing badges and saying they were from "homeland security," according to Sheriff's Department officials.

OC reserve deputy's gun found at home of Swedish businessman

A gun belonging to an Orange County Sheriff's Department reserve deputy was found at the home of a Swedish businessman accused of crashing a rare Ferrari on a coastal highway, authorities said Tuesday.

The gun was confiscated during a raid at the home of Stefan Eriksson, who has pleaded not guilty to embezzlement, grand theft, drunk driving and weapons charges stemming from the Feb. 21 crash of a million-dollar Enzo Ferrari - one of only 400 made.

    and the plot thickens ....

    http://www.comcast.net/news/national...qh=itn_ferrari

Eriksson told authorities he was a deputy commissioner with the authority's anti-terrorism division, although most of his previous experience with law enforcement appears to be the five years he spent in a Swedish prison in the 1990s for assault, extortion and other crimes.

    *snip*

"I would rank it as probably the most incredible exotic car crash in history," said Greg Carlson, whose Web site, http://www.wreckedexotics.com, keeps track of such things.
