PHOTO

Posted: March 2, 2006

(CBS 3) PHILADELPHIA Philadelphia Police are asking for the public’s help locating a woman who has been missing since February 4.

Police say 37-year-old Mikalena Nau, was last at an ATM machine near her home in the Oxford Circle section of the city.

Nau used her debit card on the 4th and was not reported missing by her family until the 16h of February.

“We have documented evidence that she was there at some point on February 4th and that’s the last time there has been any observation of this woman,” said Philadelphia Police Capt. Benjamin Naish.

According to police, Nau’s car, a 1997 Mercedes Benz, had also been missing and spotted several times before being found in the Tacony neighborhood only four miles from her home. Her purse was also found outside the car and her wallet was missing.

Police say her disappearance is a mystery and at this time they fear foul play is possible and ask anyone with information to contact police at 215-686-3153.

Nau is described as 105 pounds, 5’4” and also goes by the name Rachel.

Car, Purse Found Four Miles From Home

UPDATED: March 2, 2006

PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia police are asking for the public's help to find a woman who vanished last month.

The car of Mickalena Nau, 37, was discovered several days after she disappeared, a few miles from where she lived. Nau is also known as Rachel. Nau is a self-employed real estate agent.

Northeast Detectives told NBC 10 News that the last time anyone can account for Nau's whereabouts was on Feb. 4, when she was seen on ATM surveillance video withdrawing $100.

Nau's family did not report her missing until Feb. 16. Four days later, police found Nau's 1997 Mercedes four miles from her home in the Tacony section of Philadelphia. Her purse was found nearby, but there was no sign of Nau.

WOW, I can't really believe she was missing for SO long with noone reporting her gone! This really doesn't sound good with her purse found and possibly blood in the car

New Light Shed in Missing Woman Case

<snip>

Authorities now confirm that Nau had recently worked for the Full Moon Escort Service in South Philadelphia, but they do not know if it has any connection to her disappearance. Her mother had no knowledge of any of this.

One of Nau's neighbors has pointed police to a man living near by that the missing woman was close to.

Police have questioned that man and others, but right now they are not ready to name anyone a suspect. The family is asking for the public's help.

Police are particularly interested in speaking to anyone in the 57-hundred block of Keystone who may have seen someone in Nau's Mercedes who drove it there, who parked it. Anyone with information is being asked to call Northeast Detectives at 215-686-3153 or 3154.

Action News has learned of several new developments in the investigation into the disappearance of Mikalena Nau who lived on Elbridge. Most importantly, this investigation has now been handed over to the homicide division.

While police have not found Nau's body, they do have reason to believe that Nau is no longer alive and while it may just be a coincidence, they want to know if her disappearance is connected to the murder of an acquaintance of hers last week.

Friend of missing escort was shot dead

Posted on Thu, Mar. 09, 2006

The search for Michelle "Mikalena" Nau, the sometime escort and aspiring real estate agent missing for more than a month, took police yesterday to a Mayfair apartment where one of her friends was killed last week.

Investigators also checked a Dumpster in Fishtown where they believed her body might have been dumped and set on fire, and they planned to travel to a Chester County landfill.

Nau, 37, who had been renovating a home in Oxford Circle, was reported missing Feb. 16 by her family. Authorities combing through her cell-phone records found calls to George Conway, 48, a handyman who was shot to death March 1 in his apartment above a hair salon. Conway was described as a friend of Nau's, although investigators do not know how well the two knew each other.

Apparently authorities are interviewing a garbage truck driver who remembers dumping a grey carpet. LE thinks Mikalena was placed in a grey carpet and then set on fire. They're also searching the dump for her body.

BTW, is anyone else offended by the media constantly mentioning her working for an escort service? She could've been the nastiest prostitute on the planet but that doesn't mean she deserves to die.

While I strongly believe her working for an escort service is no justification for murder, I think it IS important for the dangers of escort services to be highlighted any time it can. Lots of girls around where I live see it as "glamorous". And while she apparently had money because she was driving a mercedes, many many many girls just end up spending all of the money they make on drugs. if the media was dismissing the murder because she was a prostitute, then I would be deeply offended, but It is important to show that an "escort service" is dangerous, risky, and in no way something to aspire to.

It is also very hard to get out once you get in, which may be what happened to her. I admire anyone who can get themselves out of the business, along with off drugs.

Body Found At Trash Facility

PHILADELPHIA -- A body has been found at a trash facility in Chester, Delaware County, NBC 10 reported.

Sources told NBC 10 that the police activity is related to the search for Mikalena Nau.

Nau was reported missing last month.

NBC 10 News learned Wednesday that homicide detectives are talking with two "people of interest" in the disappearance of aspiring real-estate agent Mikalena Nau.

Police also combed through a Dumpster as they investigated a theory that Nau was killed and her body was placed in the Dumpster, which was then set on fire.

On Wednesday afternoon, the investigators were in city's Fishtown section on Frankford Avenue looking closely at the charred-out Dumpster.

Police said the received a tip that led them to the Dumpster, and that a fire was reported there on Feb. 16.

I am impressed with the LE actually working the case and finding something. And not being comprimised by the media. It shows that they can keep the public aware and still work. I pray that she is identified quickly. Not the out come you want but much better than not knowing for years.

I wonder who LE have been getting their information from. Sounds like someone knows pretty much what happened. It will be interesting to see how this all comes out. I also wonder if the two people that were murdered were murdered by the same person and if so...why. Gosh, she wasn't very far from her home when someone caught her. Such a young person. I hope they find out who did this. My heart goes out to her family.

While I agree with your thoughts on the danger of working for an escort agency, I don't think being an escort and being on drugs are synonymous.

I tend to agree with bykerladi.. could you imagine if it were your loved one that was missing or murdered and the only thing the media said about her was that she is an "escort"- never thinking or caring about the added pain that one word is giving her family.

The thing is that she was an escort though and being an escort could of very well had something to do with what happened to her. It's not to bash her in anyway. I remember when Laci went missing it was all ' subsitute teacher ' ..I think with the public knowing she was an escort it opens up more avenues and it could help solve the case. I wonder if LE is going to pursue this case now to find the killer or if they are going to shove it under the rug because of her being an escort.

Wonder what that emergency cell phone call was? Was it to 911 - or to a friend?

Nau hasn't been seen since she took $100 out of an ATM on Feb. 4, which was the same day she made an emergency cell phone call. On Feb 19, police recovered her Mercedes, where they found a small bloodstain on the front passenger seat.
