Torchia pleads guilty to killing woman 2 years ago
UTICA - A 67-year-old Utica woman admitted today in Oneida County Court that she killed another woman with a hammer more than two years ago.
Eleanor Torchia was due to begin trial next Monday, but instead she pleaded guilty to second-degree murder today after Judge Michael L. Dwyer offered her a sentence of 15 years to life in prison.
City police found the buried remains of Sandra L. Goodman in July 2005 outside Torchia’s Brinckerhoff Avenue boarding house, where Goodman had been living. Police believe Goodman was killed in May 2003.
