Sheriff's deputies in Marion County, Fla., have arrested a man in the slaying of a woman two years ago, according to a Local 6 News report.

Investigator said Frederick Harris was taken into custody Wednesday at his home in Leesburg after DNA evidence and a Florida criminal database led to him.

Jake Rawls found his wife, Debra, killed in their home in Summerfield, Fla., in 2004. Several items were stolen and someone spotted a red truck similar to Harris', but it took two years for detectives to make an arrest in the case.

With DNA, and the popularity of Crime shows, forensic science is moving ahead at the speed of light. They will have to build more jails, and we are going to have to pay more in taxes, to support the effects of better police investigations. We need to take the criminals off of the streets, and need to stop allowing perp's to go free with probation.

Her husband can have some closure. Kudos to this avid detective.

In a stunning confession Wednesday before a judge, lawyers and the victim's family members, Frederick Harris admitted to killing Summerfield resident Debra Rawls in June 2004, saying he just "lost it" when she caught him burglarizing her home.

Harris, 43, pleaded guilty in open court to first-degree murder and armed burglary of a dwelling.

Circuit Judge Hale Stancil sentenced him to consecutive mandatory life sentences on both counts, plus 10 years on an armed trespassing count from another case. Under Florida law, Harris will not be eligible for any early release.
