Details of Disappearance: Calico left her house on Brugg Street in Belen, New Mexico to go on a bike ride at 9:30 on the morning of September 20, 1988, and was last seen approximately two miles from her home. Witnesses reported seeing a pickup truck which appeared to be following her as she rode. She has never been seen again.
Nine months after Tara's disappearance, a Polaroid photo was discovered in a convenience store parking lot in Port St. Joe, Florida depicting a young woman strongly resembling Tara and a smaller boy, both bound and gagged with duct tape.
A black & white copy of the photo can be seen here: http://www.tabloidbaby.com/Book/Companion/bound.html
A smaller color copy can be seen at the bottom here: http://www.theyaremissed.org/ncma/ga...hp?A200301684W
Experts at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in Arizona believe the girl is Tara. The boy was identified by his parents as nine year-old Michael Henley, who had been abducted in 1988 from the same part of New Mexico as Tara. Henley's remains were subsequently found buried in the Zuni mountains in 1990. Polaroid officials say the picture had to have been taken after May 1989 (seven months after Tara's disappearance); the film it was made of was not available until then.
The photograph was identified as having been taken in the back of a white Toyota cargo van with no windows, manufactured in the late 1980s. A white Toyota cargo van had been parked in the spot prior to the discovery of the picture.
Authorities believe that the girl in the photo was seen walking along the beach in Port St. Joe shortly before the Polaroid was located. Witnesses said that the girl was accompanied by several unidentified adult Caucasian males who appeared to be giving her verbal orders.
