TN - Boy, 9, shot to death, Nashville, 21 March 2006

    March 22, 2006, 8:24 am]

    "Hooded Man Kills Child"

A child is dead after his family was attacked Tuesday night. A hooded gunman approached the house off Gwynnwood Drive near Briley Parkway a little after 9:30 p.m. The child answered the door. The gunman said, "I have a present for you."

An adult nearby saw the man had a gun. This adult slammed the door shut on the assailant. The gunman then fired 5 shots through the closed door. Nine children were present when the shots came through the door. The murdered child was hit with two bullets. Though he was rushed to Summit Medical Center he died a short time later. Anyone with information about this crime should call Metro Police at 74-CRIME.

Based on what I saw on the local news last night, the Aunt seems to think it's her ex who did this. The little boy was spending Spring Break with her when this happened. I hope they catch whoever it is.

Nice to meet a fellow Tennessean, Anne. Thanks for posting that - I couldn't find that link that stated that to include it so thanks for posting that. It's just so sad.

    Hi Lucky,

Nice to meet ya too! This story just seems to keep getting worse. News Channel 5 in Nashville reported tonight that they couldn't even give this child a decent funeral because fights broke out, so they had to carry the body directly to the grave site. So very sad. As they said on the news "His life was taken by violence and it has followed him into death."

    From October 2013:

A Davidson County Criminal Court jury convicted [Clarence Dewayne Hayes] of felony murder in 2008, and the trial court sentenced him to life in prison...

Mr. Greer testified that he and his wife saw the petitioner in court on March 21, 2006... That evening, his nephew, M.H., was visiting the Greers’ house... Mr. Greer said that he went to answer the door... The man told him, “Tori sent me down here to give you something.” Mr. Greer said that he looked down and saw that the man had a gun in his hand. He told the children to run... and he heard five to six shots. Mrs. Greer told him that M.H. was hit, but he did not believe her until she brought him into the hallway.

Mr. Greer called 9-1-1. Mr. Greer said that the man shot through the door, and neither he nor the man opened the door. Mr. Greer said that he had never seen the man before, but he was wearing a gold hooded sweatshirt, with the hood pulled over his head.
