Posted: 3/23/2006

Travis County Sheriff's Office detectives have exhausted all leads in a missing person case.

Now, they're asking for help to find an Austin woman missing since last month.

Latoya Lynnette Finley, 22, was supposed to be headed to Los Angeles. She never made it to California, her family said.

Finley is 5' 8" tall, 110 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. She also walks with a noticeable limp or with crutches from a disability.

She was last seen driving her car in Austin – a 2000 four-door silver Hyundai Elantra with a license plate 082-FYC.

Finley's family believes she was with a boyfriend named Ryan Smith who may live around the Marble Falls area.

Detectives have not been able to locate him either.

The circumstances surrounding her disappearance now make detectives and family members believe that she may be in danger.

If you have any information that can help the sheriff's office, call Det. Chris Rowland at (512) 854-3245.

Warrant issued for aunt of missing woman

March 29, 2006

<snip>

Investigators Tuesday issued an arrest warrant for the missing woman's aunt, Karen Bunton.

Detectives believe Bunton and her husband Tony Holmes were the last to see Finley alive.

Bunton is charged with making a false statement to obtain credit, after detectives say she stole and pawned items belonging to her missing niece.

"If you've seen my sister and her husband just please let us know where they're at, because my daughter is sick," said Vicky Finley, Latoya's mother. "She's disabled, you know, and she hasn't been out there on her own before. Just please call."

Detectives also tell KVUE News the aunt and uncle in question may still be driving Finley's 2005, silver 4-door Hyundai Elantra with Texas plates 082-FYC.

Call CrimeStoppers at 472-TIPS if you have any information.

Latoya Finley's relatives were in her car when they were pulled over.

Abilene police early this morning pulled over a vehicle owned by an Austin woman who has been missing since February and arrested her aunt and uncle, said Travis County sheriff's spokesman Roger Wade.

Karen Denine Bunton, 38, and Tony Holmes, 26, disappeared shortly after they stopped cooperating in the investigation into the disappearance of 22-year-old Latoya Finley. Holmes was arrested for larceny, while Bunton was arrested on a previous charge from Austin, Wade said.

Detectives confirm that they found skeletal remains in the car the couple was driving.

Travis County detectives are not sure if the remains are animal or human, but they did bring them to the medical examiner's office for a forensic anthropologist for examination.

Holmes was taken from Finley's car in handcuffs. Police arrested Holmes and Burton after they led Abilene authorities on a high speed chase Friday morning.

This aunt and her boyfriend or husband were the last people to see Latoya and then they are caught driving her car???? I wonder what story the bones will tell. Her aunt.....that is really hard for me to grasp. I have one neice and I would never think of harming one single hair on her head. She's a part of me. This isn't looking good at all. That poor mother.

Unfortunately, there is no happy ending.

AUSTIN, Texas -- The dismembered remains of a 22-year-old woman were found in a car driven by her aunt and uncle, officials said Sunday. Latoya Finley was last seen Feb. 24, when she told her family she was going to Los Angeles to pursue her music career.

Can you imagine riding around in a car for days with a dismembered body in it?
I wonder if this was all so that they could have her car? That is so sickening.
If that were my sister I would hope that she burned in hell. Must be drugs involved or those two people are just pure evil.

From February 2008:

A Travis County man was sentenced to 60 years in prison Tuesday for the death of his niece, who disappeared after telling her family she was going to Los Angeles to begin a music career.

Tony Holmes, 28, pleaded guilty to murder Tuesday in a plea bargain with prosecutors. He admitted smothering Latoya Finley with his hands. Holmes told investigators that he had become angry with Finley on the day she was last seen for "telling lies" about his involvement in dealing drugs...

Bunton is charged with capital murder and tampering with evidence.

Looks like Bunton pled out; two counts of tampering with evidence with 5- and 10-year sentences, per Texas DOC records:
