Date Of Birth: April 3, 1966
Age: 14 years old
Height and Weight: 5'4, 90 pounds
Distinguishing Characteristics: Brown hair, blue eyes. Laureen has a prominent scar on her upper leg, resulting from a fall onto broken glass.
Clothing Description: A white v-neck sweater, a blue plaid blouse, jeans, brown shoes, a heart-shaped gold ring and a silver/blue necklace.

Details of Disappearance

Laureen resided with her mother, Judith Rahn, in an apartment on Merrimack Street in Manchester, New Hampshire. She was a student at Parkside Junior High School and made good grades. She was last seen at her home during the evening hours of April 26, 1980. Two of Laureen's friends saw her approximately one hour before her disappearance and reported that nothing was amiss at the time. She has never been heard from again.
Judith discovered that she had been charged for three California phone calls on October 1, 1980, three months after Laureen disappeared. Judith did not have any friends or relatives in California at the time. Two of the calls had been placed from a motel in Santa Monica to another motel in Santa Ana. The third call was placed to a teen sexual assistance hotline. Authorities attempted to question the physician who maintained the hotline, but they were unable to ascertain if he knew any details about Laureen's case.

An investigator followed up on the hotline tip in 1985. A man identifying himself as a plastic surgeon answered the call. He said that numerous runaway girls occasionally visited his wife at their home. He also told the investigator that one of the young women may have been from New Hampshire. The individual claimed that Annie Sprinkle, a woman who allegedly worked with his wife in the fashion industry, may have had information concerning several runaways. Authorities learned that Sprinkle was involved in the *advertiser censored* industry and scanned several of her films in an attempt to locate Laureen. No evidence linking Sprinkle to Laureen's disappearance was discovered and she has never been implicated in her case.

An investigator visited California on Judith's behalf in 1986 and located the two motels involved in the October 1980 phone calls. Authorities said that one of the establishments may have been used by a child pornographer named "Dr. Z." Investigators were unable to link "Dr. Z" to the teen hotline and it is not known if *advertiser censored* was involved in Laureen's disappearance.

Roger Maurais, Laureen's childhood friend in Manchester, received a call from a woman identifying herself as "Laurie" or "Laureen" in 1986. Maurais's mother answered the call and said that the person claimed to be her son's former girlfriend. The caller's identity remains unknown.

One of Laureen's family members reported seeing a girl matching her description in a Boston, Massachusetts bus terminal in 1981. Judith received phone calls around the Christmas holidays for several years from an unknown individual. She said that the person listened silently when Laureen's sister answered the phone, then terminated the call shortly afterwards. The calls stopped after Judith changed her phone number several years after Laureen vanished.

A witness reported that a prostitute in Anchorage, Alaska matched Laureen's description. The unconfirmed sighting occurred in 1988 and authorities said that the witness based his recollections on her 1980 photo. The woman was not believed to have been Laureen as a result of the time lapse.

In April 2005, a Nevada investigator contacted Judith and said Laureen bore a resemblance to a murdered young woman whose body was found off a dirt road in Henderson, Nevada in October 1980. Judith goes not believe the Nevada woman is her daughter, but officials are investigating that possibility.

Judith moved to Fort Myers, Florida during the years after Laureen's disappearance. She believes that her daughter placed the three California phone calls in October 1980. Laureen enjoyed singing and dancing at the time of her disappearance and dreamed of becoming an actress. Investigators continue to suspect that foul play was involved in her case, which remains unsolved.

While there is no evidence that the two cases are connected, it is worth noting that Rachael Garden, another petite brunette about the same age as Laureen, disappeared from a nearby town just a month before Laureen did. Garden's case remains unsolved as well and is also classified as a non-family abduction.

Some agencies may list April 27, 1980 as the date of Laureen's disappearance.

This case has always fascinated me. Anyone have any information, theories, etc, about this case?

Whoa guys, let it be noted that some of the above websites are not safe for work or for when kids are around. There is some pornographic content.

Sorry bykerladi, I'm not trying to get you in trouble, I'd just hate for someone "unauthorized" to see that.

I'm surprised Annie Sprinkle still looks so...young. The woman's gotta be 50+. (And yeah, I know 50+ isn't old, but this woman is naked.)

Statistics are that at least 10,000 adult movies are produced per year. Thousands of women (and men) enter and exit the *advertiser censored* industry, rarely using their real names. If this girl was shoved into the *advertiser censored* industry, not only would she not be using her name, but, because of the high drug use and AIDS epidemic going on between then and now, she is likely deceased. If she is still alive, she probably doesn't even remember her life before the *advertiser censored* industry.

What I don't understand is why a plastic surgeon was running a sex abuse hotline and why his wife was sending these poor girls into the *advertiser censored* industry. Did LE ever interview the wife? Where could Laureen have gotten the hotline number from?

Laureen Ann Rahn
Missing since April 27, 1980 from Manchester, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire.
Classification: Non-Family Abduction

Vital Statistics Date Of Birth: April 3, 1966
Age at Time of Disappearance: 14 years old
Height and Weight at Time of Disappearance: 5'4; 90 pounds
Distinguishing Characteristics: White female. Brown hair; blue eyes.
Dentals: Available. 4 fillings.
<LI>Clothing: Rahn was last seen wearing a white v-neck sweater; blue plaid blouse; jeans; and brown shoes. She was also wearing a heart-shaped gold ring and a silver and blue necklace.

Circumstances of Disappearance
Rahn was last seen at her mother's Merrimack Street apartment in Manchester during the evening hours of April 27, 1980. There were no clues at the apartment where she last was seen, and there was nothing to be learned from the two friends who had seen her within an hour of when she disappeared.
Laureen's mother found that her October 1980 phone bill included charges for three calls placed from Santa Monica, California on October 1. She immediately decided that Laureen must have placed the calls. With the help of Santa Monica police, Rahn discovered that two of the calls were placed from a motel pay phone to a motel in nearby Santa Ana. The third call was to a hotline for teens who had questions about sex. Police investigators contacted the doctor who ran the hotline, but apparently were unable to find out what he knew. An investigator followed up on the hotline tip in 1985. A man identifying himself as a plastic surgeon answered the call. Authorities said that one of the establishments may have been used by a child pornographer named "Dr. Z." Investigators were unable to link "Dr. Z" to the teen hotline. The possibility that Laureen somehow had become entagled in the underworld of child *advertiser censored* remains open. Authorities suspect that foul play was involved in Rahn's disappearance.

How funny! What does Annie Sprinkle have to do with this case?

This is the first I've heard about this case.

I echo the above poster's questions: Was this "wife" ever interviewed?

I cannot begin to imagine what happened to this girl.

It says that the calls were placed 3 months after Laureens disappearsnce but Laureen disappeared in April and the calls were made in October.

They must have gotten the dates off somewhere along the line. I understand they where made from a motel to other establishments, but charged to the Rahn home phone. Very easy to do...matter of fact it got me into loads of trouble with my parents when I was in college.:behindbar I would call my best friend/boy friend from my dorm and charge it to my parents phone. That was in the mid 80's.

This is strange. It sounds like she was maybe trying to get found for a while and so the Mom changes her number. If I thought that maybe it was my child trying to reach home, I'd have a trace call set up on my home every holiday season.

She was a pretty girl, but I highly doubt she looks anything like the age enhanced picture, (Which are always very nice). Not to sound just totally awful, but if she was into the *advertiser censored*/prostitute scene, if alive today is probably "road hard and put away wet" looking.

I believe the mainstream *advertiser censored* industry is pretty safe nowadays, at least in terms of STDs. I don't know if it was this safe back in 1980, though.

Interesting to note that the "Dr. Z" link above at sexsmart.com is in Boston.

There was a potential sighting of Laureen in Boston at a bus terminal in 81. Wonder if Dr Z was in Boston at that time?

There is way too much evidence in this case not to find something concrete!!??

From what I understand, Annie Sprinkle was a teen prostitute and *advertiser censored* star who pulled herself out of it and went to college. She was still in pornographic movies in 1980, according to Wikipedia, but judging by the timeline, it sounds like she was trying to get out of it at the time. She may have been attending school at that point - she got a BFA in 1986.

She most likely would have known teen runaways through the *advertiser censored* connections - that industry was definitely using underage girls at the time (Traci Lords, anyone?)

Funny that I know any of this - Annie Sprinkles made the papers several times in the 90s during the whole ruckus over NEA grants going to artists whose material might be deemed obscene if community standards are applied (like they would be with TV). And of course it was national news when Traci Lords was outed as an underage *advertiser censored* star!

If Annie did encounter her, it is possible that Laureen was living in California under an assumed identity. I guess that not many make it out of that lifestyle, though, if she was in *advertiser censored* and/or prostitution. Drugs and/or AIDS may have claimed her in the interim. If it was a good false ID, we may never find her unless she comes forward.

I received a very nice email from Laureen's mother. She thanked everyone for their concern and for everyone asking the questions that should have been answered long ago.

If we carry the theory further that this young lady ended up in California, and got involved with the wrong people, then it might not be beyond the realm of possibility that she got involved with the west coast prostitution "circuit". This 'circuit' had girls traveling up and down the pacific coast, changing locations frequently as to avoid arrest. The reason I mention this is because Gary Ridgeway, the Green River serial killer from here in Seattle, was active at that time and many of his victims were very young and on the 'circuit'. There are several Jane Does that have been found and never identified, who are in her age range:
