NEW CUMBERLAND, W.Va. - A body found in the Ohio River Thursday afternoon has not yet been identified, nor has a cause of death been determined, according to Hancock County Sheriff Mike White.
A construction worker at the New Cumberland Locks and Dam in Stratton noticed the body in the chamber of the lock at about 2 p.m. Thursday, according to White, who said his department and the state police were assisted by Newell Volunteer Fire Department in retrieving the body.
The body was sent to the medical examiner's office in Charleston, W.Va., where an autopsy was being performed, which was not complete Friday afternoon. White declined to offer any information about the victim, including gender, until results of the autopsy are known.
