One person was killed when a device exploded in a downtown Toronto coffee shop on Sunday, and police said they had no clues on who the victim was or what exactly caused the blast.Staff Sergeant Don Cole said the blast took place just after 1 p.m. EDT in the washroom of a Tim Hortons shop, a coffee and doughnut chain that was recently spun off from parent company Wendy's International Inc.

One man was killed.

"It appears there was a device, but we don't know whether the person brought it in with him, or it he was an innocent party, or if he was a suicide, we just don't know," he said.

"It's not something that just blew up by itself, it was some device."

Wasn't there a story just a few months ago about a possible explosive device found at another Tim Horton's restaurant?

There may have been another report of a device but I never saw it. I do remember that in the Maritimes they shut down a marijuana drop out of the drive thru

All you had to say was a special word at the drive through speaker and you got an extra large cup with weed inside.

This report is intrigueing:

Early news reports said a man was seen going into the restroom with explosives strapped to his chest. Police would not confirm the reports.
Is this why he went to the washroom? Is it like the pizza delivery guy with the bomb around his neck?

Police ruled out initial reports that a man had entered the washroom shortly before the blast with explosives strapped to his body, with investigators saying the explosion was caused by gasoline or a similar accelerant, Toronto police Don Staff-Sgt. Cole said Sunday evening.

"He's not a strap-on al-Qaeda bomber guy," Staff-Sgt. Cole said. "It sounds to me like a guy who either wanted to do a torch job or commit suicide."

A customer entered the washroom and noticed the smell of gasoline coming from the stall, -said. The customer then saw the gasoline can and fled the washroom only moments before the explosion, he said.
