Adolescent's Skull Found In Woods

Remains Could Be 10 Years Old

POSTED: 11:19 am CDT April 26, 2006
UPDATED: 11:57 am CDT April 26, 2006

SANTA FE, Texas -- The partial skull of an adolescent was found in a Galveston County field, KPRC Local 2 reported Wednesday.

Officials said a man found the remains Tuesday near a cemetery on Avenue M and 28th Street in Santa Fe, but the skull is not believed to be from a grave.

The medical examiner confirmed the skull belonged to an adolescent and has probably been in the field for five to 10 years.

Texas EquuSearch began looking for more remains and clues about the person's identity.

"We know we do have some young girls that have been missing for quite some time real close to this area," said Tim Miller with Texas EquuSearch.

"Right now it's just a process where we check all missing persons and see if there's one in this area or any area of Texas that may match up. And then it's the process of elimination," said Sgt. John Putnam with the Galveston County Sheriff's Office.

Cadaver dogs were brought in to help with the search through the thick brush.

Searchers said it could take as many as three days to cover the area.

So sad but I am glad they were found so a missing child can be identified. Anyone familiar with missing children from that area?

yeah, jessica cain was the first that popped into my head too.

thanks for that link about the I45 killings. I knew there were a lot of girls missing from that area, but I had no idea there were THAT many!

scary!:(

jeesh, that's alot of gunshot wounds to the head!

any news on identifying this person?

How can there be no news on this? A skull was found in an area where many young girls have gone missing and no identification has been made?

I'm in the Houston area and this is the first I've heard of this. Jessica Cain is the first one that came to mind and it surprises me that there hasn't been anything on the news.

For more than a century, people have been buried in the Alta Loma cemetery. But when a human skull was discovered near the edge of a nearby wooded area, investigators had to explore the possibility of foul play.

"We want to look for clothes," Tim Miller with Texas Equusearch instructed volunteers. "We need to realize any bones are going to blend in with the ground."

Two teens disappeared years ago about a mile away. Their bodies were never found.

"We got one girl, Michelle Thomas, she lived probably a half a mile from here," Miller said. "Then Sandra Ramas lived probably a mile and a half from here."

I didn't find a missing Sandra Ramas but maybe TM meant

This UID is not in Namus or Doe network.

Investigators have yet to rule out the possibility the skull could have been unearthed from the cemetery and carried away.

"This cemetery was established in 1897," said Sgt. John Putnam with the Galveston County Sheriff's Office. "So they've had some crypts over a period of time that have deteriorated to the point where bones were exposed and they had to go in and repair them."

Perhaps they have already determined who the skull belonged to?

Did they ever determine who the skull belonged to??? Pulled from an article from April 2006, "Miller said the Galveston County Medical Examiner has determined the skull is probably that of an 8 to 16 year-old-girl."

And now the skull is that of a 25-45 year old male?!?

And now the skull is that of a 25-45 year old male?!?

Yep. Strange, EH?

I don't think that's the same UID. The skull that is the subject of this thread was found on Wednesday, April 26, 2006, "near a cemetery on Avenue M and 28th Street in Santa Fe".

UP352 was found on April 17, 2006, at 323 Winona Drive, Pasadena, TX (34 miles away from the adolescent skull).

So what happened to the skull found on 4/26/2006??

One wonders if this young girl (the original topic of the post, not the second set of remains that appears to have become mixed into this post) is amongst this group - though November 2006 discoveries are mentioned I don't this this lass is. Though found in 2006, earlier posts say she could have been there for 5-10 years. The Texas killing fields and the highway of death
