SF Garage Shooting Victim A Gang Murder Witness
SAN FRANCISCO -- A key witness in a gang murder case was shot and killed by masked men Thursday when he dropped off his van at an auto repair shop, authorities said. The victim, identified by family members as Terrell Rollins, 22, was shot in the head at 10:15 a.m. Rollins was cooperating with prosecutors in the murder case and living outside San Francisco as part of a witness-protection program.
Three men wearing ski masks and hooded jackets confronted Rollins after he dropped off the van at the shop located on the 200 block of Bayshore Boulevard, between Oakdale and Jerrold avenues, said San Francisco police Capt. Al Pardini. Witness reported hearing at least 10 shots fired and Rollins died at the scene.
A second man, who was with Rollins, was shot in the leg and being treated at San Francisco General Hospital.
The assailants fled the scene.
Rollins was also shot on Sept. 19, 2005, by two suspected gang members.
The two men shot and killed a member of a rival gang Arkelylius Collins, 20, police said. A stray bullet hit Rollins, who authorities said was just a bystander. Daniel Dennard and Deonte Bennett, both 21, were indicted in March on murder and attempted murder charges. They have both pleaded not guilty and are being held on $1 million bail.
Both men are suspected members of the Oakdale Mob gang in San Francisco. At the time, the district attorney's office said Rollins and Collins were members of the rival BNT gang. Rollins identified Dennard and Bennett in his testimony before the grand jury. He was the only witness to come forward. "That is why people don't come forward," Michelle Daniels-Kyer, the mother of Rollins' sister, told the San Francisco Chronicle. "Why would you come forward if you are going to die?
