Winhall, Vermont - May 12, 2006

Vermont State police were on the scene at a home on North Branch Road in Winhall Friday, investigating the homicide of Renato Wieser, 27. The seasonal home is located only a couple hundred yards from the Stratton Mountain Country Club. Murder investigations don't sit lightly in the affluent Vermont ski town.

"I'm pretty scared because I live alone in the area. It's kind of strange to believe because he was beaten, I guess," said Jamie Morris who works nearby. "We heard he was tied up and beaten, but we don't know for sure if that's what happened."

Halifax County sheriff’s department Maj. Wes Tripp said evidence was discovered in the vehicle, which was secured for Vermont State Troopers.

Tripp said the vehicle had probably been abandoned.

“This is a pretty remote area,” Tripp said. “The only people who come down here would be the people who live in the houses on the side of the road.”

BENNINGTON — The Bennington County State's Attorney's Office continues in its attempt to bring two men accused of killing a Winhall man back to Vermont from Florida where they are serving time for unrelated crimes.

Snip ...

According to police, the three men were using cocaine and drinking beer while at Wieser's residence that day. Police said Gould tied Wieser up and stabbed him several times in the neck and back. The two then allegedly raided a safe in the home, took Wieser's vehicle and headed south. Police said the valuables taken from the home were worth over $40,000.

Much more at link.
