Woman's Body Found Under Bridge
Police Working To Identify Body

POSTED: 11:25 am CDT May 19, 2006
UPDATED: 1:28 pm CDT May 19, 2006

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa -- Crews are investigating the discovery of a body near the Veteran's Memorial Bridge on the Council Bluffs side of the river.

Investigators confirmed that the body is that of a white woman.

Sgt. Jerry Mann, with the Council Bluffs Police Department, said his office was first contacted at about 2:30 a.m. Friday. A pest control worker reported seeing the body in the river, according to Mann.

The area is residential with a number of mobile homes.

The body was removed and sent to the state lab in Ankeny for identification.

So far, investigators have not linked the discovery to the disappearance of Tracy Tribble, 35, of Council Bluffs, who was last seen on May 3; or that of Jessica O'Grady, 19, of Omaha, who was last seen May 10.

Volunteers Search For Jessica
150 people join effort

The search continues for Jessica O'Grady, the 19-year-old UNO student missing for more than a week.

Jessica was last seen by friends and family on May 10th.

On Saturday morning, friends and volunteers organized a search effort in west Omaha near her last known whereabouts.

Volunteers were organized into 12 search teams with 10 people in each group.

Along with the task of looking for clues about Ms. O'Grady's disappearance, the volunteers passed out flyers to local businesses.

Jessica's aunt, Traci Harrison, says, "It's fantastic. So many of them know Jessica and, you know, people that we've never even met -- all we can ask for is for them to show up and help us."

The O'Grady family says 150 volunteers helped with Saturday's search effort.

If you know anything about Jessica O'Grady's whereabouts you're urged to contact authorities. The Douglas County Sheriff's Department is the lead investigating agency in the case. You can reach the department by calling 402-333-1000.

Sheriff: Scene Suggests O'Grady Not Alive

Dunning Says Boyfriend, Family Not Cooperating With Investigation

OMAHA, Neb. -- Investigators said on Tuesday that a missing 19-year-old was at her boyfriend's west Omaha home the last night she was seen, and the sheriff said he's doubtful the woman will be found safe.

Jessica O'Grady, a student at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, was last seen on May 10.

On Monday night, Douglas County investigators served a search warrant at her boyfriend's aunt's home, where the boyfriend was living. That house is near 130th and Cady streets. Douglas County Sheriff Tim Dunning said the residents of the home are being uncooperative with investigators.

WOW. go read the article. Lots of information released and none of it looks good, except the police are doing their job (this time....).

Why not an obstruction of justice charge against these uncooperative people?
I don't get that!!

Prayers for Jessica's family. So sad.

I heard on Nancy Grace tonight....I believe it was Nancy...that it was said that Jessica thought that she was pregnant. Don't remember if a doc had verified it or a pregnancy test tho. It was also said that the relationship had been a rocky one.

The police found a mattress that the boyfriend had tried to cut into pieces and it was drenched in blood. Also the box springs were in the same condition. I would imagine once they verify that the blood is Jessica's the boyfriend will be arrested. Motive is probably the pregnancy if she was actually pregnant.

This young gal was going to college and working. She was doing something with her life. The boyfriend sounds like he was way beneath her. It's not looking good with all of the blood evidence and the family clamming up and not cooperating with LE. I hope that Jessica is found and that this guy spends lots and lots of time in prison.

I don't see a thread for her. If there is one, feel free to delete this. Later articles don't look promising for Jessica. I'll post some momentarily.

WOWT | Home Searched Again

Authorities returned to the home of Jessica O'Grady's boyfriend Monday night searching for more evidence...

Neighbors told us of seeing investigators removing a headboard, three large pillows and many evidence bags from the house last week.

Authorities returned to the same residence Monday night. No one answered the door and deputies broke it open to gain access.

The homeowner and an unidentified man later showed up and were briefly involved in a verbal altercation with deputies.

Investigators took a number of photographs in the home and the department's mobile crime van was on the scene as the search was conducted. Among the items removed from the property: a garbage can; boxes; pieces of what looked to be a handrail and either a small chair or a comforter. Several bags were also removed but it was not clear what was in them...

Douglas County Sheriff Tim Dunning said last Wednesday, "I think we're going to do well on this particular case in a very short period of time, but right now, we don't have a lot."

KETV.com - News - Sheriff: Scene Suggests O'Grady Not Alive

... Douglas County Sheriff Tim Dunning said the residents of the home are being uncooperative with investigators.

"Someone that was in that house knows where Jessica O'Grady is..."

Dunning said investigators involved in Monday's search of the house noticed substantial differences at the home compared to the first search there last week.

"We noticed the place had incurred a major cleanup operation, and appeared someone had tried to sanitize the scene," Dunning said.

On Monday, investigators said, a trash can was removed from the home, along with several other items. Investigators snapped pictures in the garage, and a large area was sprayed and searched using a blue light...

Dunning said someone at the home may have tried removing large furniture.

"(It was) taken apart and placed in small sizes and smaller containers that could be carried out so that it would not be noticeable..."

Dunning said his investigators have been able to gather substantial evidence from the home, but that it's getting tougher to believe O'Grady will be found safe.

"You always have to have that hope. However, we do have a scene that tells us that there is a great possibility she is not alive," Dunning said...

(An attorney representing the boyfriend and his family has said that the boyfriend hasn't been back in the house last week and that the house was cleaned because deputies wrecked it during the initial search.)

KETV.com - News - Sheriff: Suspect Identified In O'Grady Case

... On Monday night, Douglas County investigators served a search warrant at her boyfriend's aunt's home, where the boyfriend was living...

Douglas County Sheriff Tim Dunning said the residents of the home are being uncooperative with investigators. Dunning said if the boyfriend or his family members were being cooperative, they would lead investigators to the woman.

While the sheriff's office said it has identified a suspect, it declined to name that person on Wednesday. Investigators said two searches at the home may provide the evidence that leads to an arrest warrant...

WOWT | Search Moves To River

... Even if the Elkhorn (River) surrenders no clues as to Jessica's whereabouts, Sheriff Tim Dunning says investigators are developing an ironclad case.

He says, "We're continually testing evidence. Each day is a good day for us as far as the case that we're successfully mounting against our suspect."

Dunning describes the evidence taken from a house in the Willow Wood neighborhood as enough to make an arrest but not enough to make an arrest for First-Degree Murder. That house is where Jessica's boyfriend was living at the time she disappeared.

The sheriff says the county crime lab technicians have been able to find quite a bit of evidence despite efforts to clean it away.

He says, "I know the scene was sanitized after our initial search. The room was sanitized and objects in that room were cut up into little pieces..."
