This is very close to home. It sounds quite suspicious that she supposedly left her purse and cell phone in this dude's car..............She's a beautiful young lady..............

Police say they have questioned a "person of interest" in the case of a Burke County teen-age girl missing for more than a week.

Burke County Sheriff John McDevitt says he believes the girl, Olivia Nichole Seals, 17, of Morganton, might be the victim of foul play.

She has not been seen since May 7. Burke County detectives say the girl was last known to have been at a friend's home in Morganton.

I can tell you that your typical teenage girl isn't going to leave her purse and cellphone anywhere. Especially when she calls in to tell her parents where she is 5- 6 times a day.

I am concerned because so many of the people are telling different stories. I wonder if the driver was the one held and questioned for so long then released? I have a theory and I hope I am wrong.

Dear God I hope she is safe. If not when is this going to end. So many episodes of foul play is no one in fear of breaking the law or hurting another?

i agree Tennessee, something just doesnt add up here, PERIOD. and the audacity (if the boy/man is in fact the person that may have harmed her) of the boy/man to take the phone to her father. I hope they find what happened.

If the guy is the perp in the event that she did meet foul play, how stupid could he be to return the cell phone and purse?! If I were him and I did do something to her, I would have tossed them in a river or buried them in a dumpster or something.

Maybe that's exactly why he did it, to make it look like he is innocent. At this point I can't say I do or don't suspect him, but the circumstances do make one wonder...

They were just talking about this now on Greta...her body was found behind the suspect's home in a pond. I didn't catch anything else. So very sad.

Another dead child....when will the madness end....

Phillip Blankenship, 20, of Greer Avenue exits a Burke County Sheriff's Office patrol car as he is escorted by Sheriff's Deputy Robert Powell into the Sheriff's office to be booked on murder charges.

GLEN ALPINE - A body was found in the woods near a Glen Alpine home late Friday afternoon that officers believe is Olivia Seals.

Seals, 17, missing since May 7, is believed to have been in the company of Phillip Blankenship, 20, after a party. Blankenship was arrested on Friday. Charges are pending.

Burke County Sheriff John McDevitt says Blankenship, “will be charged with murder and a multitude of other charges.”

The body was found in a ravine about 60 yards from Blankenship’s home covered in leaves near the train tracks that run through Glen Alpine.

“We have not positively identified the body, but we believe it be Olivia Seals,” McDevitt says.

Investigators say that Blankenship was questioned for five to six hours on Friday, including a polygraph test. He walked out during the interview, which caused investigators to head over to the Greer Avenue home.

I would love to post the entire article.....it also says the sheriff himself found the body.

His story about her leaving her purse and phone just hasn't set well with me. NO teen girl is going to leave them behind. Their phones are usually glued to their ear and they don't leave their purses anywhere.

He says he is being framed. I hope that whoever did this to Olivia (and I don't believe Mr. Blankenship) will get a speedy trial and that justice will be swift.

OK he says hes being framed her purse and cell phone in his car because he dropped her off. Then why is her body in his backyard approx 6 miles( according to google map Greer Ave to Seals Rd.) I guessed she walked 6 miles to find her phone then fell down the ravine and covered herself with leaves. Please Lord make this a high profile case and make the sentence truly awful so other idiots out there will learn take a life loose yours. I am so sick of these jerks not thinking. Or only thinking of themselves. :banghead: I have 3 teenage girls and the world is so terrifying Trying to bring them up happy and not afraid yet careful and aware of all that goes on in this hateful place.

Ok, I know this isn't a humorous situation, but that quote made me laugh out loud.

I will never understand things like this.....LE had been to that house where the 20 yr old allowed them to search BUT everytime they got close to the cinder room where they believed he slept he would stop the search. LE said that this happened more than once! Now that should have waved a huge red flag. Yet they didn't go and get a search warrent. They just kept going back and the same thing would happen. It sounds like it happened 3-4 times before they had the good sense to get a warrent. When they searched his room sure enough there is blood and no doubt bone splinters and other things.
He beat Olivia to death in that room so it must have been a mess.

Why in the heck didn't they get the search warrent after the first time that he stopped the search. When a person won't allow LE into a certain room they should know that something isn't right. If they had gotten the warrent earlier it wouldn't have saved Olivia's life but her family wouldn't have had to sit at home day after day not knowing what happened to their daughter.

I wonder if Olivia and this guy had been dating....if they just met when she left a party with him or if she had known him before and they were just friends? He probably wanted more then she was willing to give and he wasn't taking no for an answer. If she was raped that will pretty much answer that theory.

Just 17 yrs old and her life has ended. Just a baby yet with everything to look forward to. She was such a cute little gal and looked like she was a sweetie too. My heart goes out to her family and the pain that they are in.

Getting a warrant isn't an easy process. They need some sort of proof that there is a legal reason to search a house/room. Just because they have suspicions, or he stops a search isn't enough. When they finally gained access to the room, saw blood, they stopped and got a warrant so everything they find from then on would be legal.

I wish it were easy to get a warrant... but I understand why it has to be proven that one is needed.

I just got back into town after a business trip and saw this happened about 45 miles from my hometown. I found this interesting tidbit while researching this. Nick is her dad.

"Investigators said Olivia was at a friend's house. Nick said he's picked Olivia up from that house before because she didn’t like the alleged drug use inside.

"She'd walk out on the corner and be sitting out there waiting for me," he said.

Wednesday investigators confirmed lies to cover up potential drug or alcohol use are hurting their case. "

Apparently this wasn't a very good place for a 17 year old girl to be hanging out. This is so sad, she was a beautiful girl with her whole future ahead of her. I constantly warn my 13 year old daughter about just this type of thing. This world certainly has some sick and twisted individuals in it!

Doesn't that house belong to that guy's grandparents? I think that is what I read. I wonder if that cinder block was seperate from the house and when the guy was there him and his friends partied there. I think it was also said that he hadn't been living there for awhile. Maybe he said that to throw LE off.

If the cinder block was seperate then the grandparents might not have heard a thing. If it is just a bedroom attached to the house and the grandparents were home then they should have heard something because Olivia must have been screaming and trying to get away from him. I would think anyway. If Olivia didn't like going to that house then she must not have gone there that night of her own free will.

I feel so bad for her dad and family. How horrible to know that your daughter died such a horrible death. I don't think I could empty my mind of the terror she must have felt. I hope the family is getting a lot of support.
