Search for missing Ingles truck driver continues today

    May 25, 2006
    by Asheville Citizen-Times

BLACK MOUNTAIN - Authorities this morning still have no clues to the whereabouts of Ingles truck driver Richard Fox more than three days after he pulled away from the warehouse headed for Georgia with a load of groceries and disappeared.
Searchers Wednesday flew helicopters over highways, watched footage from truck stop video cameras, checked cell phone and credit card records and asked questions at hospitals and a flea market.

Surveillance footage shows the Fairview resident leaving the warehouse around 12:30 a.m. Monday. He was scheduled to drive 250 miles to deliver a load of groceries to a store in Gray, Ga., about 100 miles southeast of Atlanta. He never showed up.

Ingles offers reward for missing driver

    published May 25, 2006
    by FROM STAFF REPORTS

BLACK MOUNTAIN - Ingles Markets has offered a $5,000 reward for information that leads authorities to missing truck driver Richard Fox.

Authorities today still have no clues to the Fairview resident’s whereabouts nearly four days after he pulled away from the Ingles warehouse in Black Mountain headed for Georgia with a load of groceries and disappeared.

The State Highway Patrol said no troopers are dedicated to the search today, a day after it sent a helicopter to trace Fox’s possible routes on North Carolina and South Carolina roads.

“We don’t know what’s happened at this point,” Capt. Michael James of the highway patrol said. “The possibility does exist that someone could have taken the tractor trailer.”

James said Civil Air Patrol was expected to fly over the route today.

Has this been reported to the Department of Homeland Security? I sure hope that they haven't overlooked notifying them.

Grocery truck driver, missing nearly a week, found deceased

    Updated: May 27, 2006

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. The son of a truck driver says his father has been found dead with his 18-wheeler, nearly a week after setting out on a cargo run from Black Mountain to Gray, Georgia.

Authorities say they found the tractor-trailer today, about 25 miles short of its destination. They didn't immediately say whether they'd also found the driver, 67-year-old Richard Fox of Fairview.

But Fox's son says he's told his father was dead inside the truck.

Authorities say the truck appeared to have run off an embankment.

Crews had searched on the ground and from the air since Fox disappeared on Monday.
