Christopher Lunz was convicted Thursday in the 2003 robbery and shotgun slaying of his father, David Lunz of Palm Harbor.
The jury returned the first-degree murder verdict after deliberating for two hours and 20 minutes. Jurors had heard Lunz, who acted as his own attorney, say during closing arguments that he had no alibi, speculate whether the victim was even his father and emphasize that no physical evidence linked him to the crime scene.
Lunz, 39, had vowed during the trial to fight for his life harder than any lawyer would and said he was "scared as hell," but he showed no apparent emotion while the verdict was read. He may face the death penalty.
