AZ - Jesse Hayes, 10, Tucson, June 2006

This is so sad and I have to think that if the area had been searched early on he could have been saved.

The body of a 10-year-old boy missing Wednesday was found some 200 feet from his far South Side home in the caged cargo area of an old, surplus firefighting SUV, where he apparently had become trapped while playing.
Police said he died of the heat.

It is a law that if you have an old frig sitting out somewhere you have to take the door off of it because of the number of kids that had died in frigs.

Why do we not have the same law as far as old cars go that are not being driven? Kids love to play in old cars and pretend that they are driving, etc.
If for some reason the car is just out of commission for awhile then it should be a law that the doors and trunk have to be kept locked. If the vehicle is just a piece of crap sitting on your property you should have to take a door off or the trunk lid. Something that will allow air to flow through the vehicle.
Kids will always play in old vehicles because it is so much fun but they should be able to play safely.

What you say makes sense. your proposed law needs to happen.
