Gamblers can bet on the hurricane season online

When Tropical Storm Alberto rolled out of the Caribbean in early June making a beeline for the Florida Panhandle, the oddsmakers perked up.

So did online gamblers, as betting started on the 2006 Atlantic hurricane season. They can wager on how many hurricanes will form, how strong they will be and even how many will pummel storm-weary Floridians.

This is really sad. These people need to get a life and quit trying to profit off death and misery. What losers.

It is sad, but it is much like so many very wealthy people making additional fortunes off of wars, and natural disasters. I.e., Halliburton has huge very lucrative contracts in Iraq, as well as clean-up, and rebuilding from Katrina.

It has been a slow year for hurricanes so far. Of course the people in the fllooded areas of the New England states, and the Atlantic states don't think it has been slow. Nobody needs that much rain at one time.
