[Bradley] Wright lost control of the Jeep after running a stop sign at the East Pembroke Avenue and Juniper Street intersection. About 10 minutes had passed from the time he and a 12-year-old friend had stolen the SUV from a nearby convenience store. Michelle Hart, 33, was pinned under the Jeep and died at the scene of a broken back and asphyxiation, according to court records.
Wright, 15, pleaded guilty in February to involuntary manslaughter. The teen, who was prosecuted as an adult, also pleaded guilty to grand larceny of an automobile and felony hit and run. On Monday, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison -- eight years for Hart's death and two years each on the other charges.
However, Wright is not headed for the penitentiary. Instead, the prison time was suspended and Wright was ordered to serve time in the serious offender program run by the state's Department of Juvenile Justice. He'll return to court in two years for a check on his progress.
