The last time Walker talked to his dad – on Father’s Day – the Morehouse college student assured his dad he was staying out of trouble…

Walker was found dead Saturday, his body bound with tape and stuffed in the trunk of an oldsmobile baking in the hot garage of his Riverdale home.

what a shame that it had to end that way for him and his Mom. She'll never forgive herself. God bless her and his Dad.

Thanks Cathieq for the article.Did he rent with others,or did he rent alone? It was stated that he had not been heard from in 2 weeks and the door was ajar.

Here's a bit more detail about Carlnell:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/07/12/BAGT1JTH491.DTL

Officers found the back door of his home ajar and saw a large amount of blood on the kitchen and living room floors, said Clayton County Assistant Police Chief Jeff Turner. His dreadlocks had been shorn and strewn throughout the home, police told his family...

His nickname was Cmoneynell and I'm finding quite a web presence. Below is a link at Blackplanet. It shows a guy with dreadlocks with the same nickname, so I'm assuming it's Carlnell.

They don't mention it in the article but I also found his page at americansingles.com.

This is his record producing site:

Below is a pdf file of what he says about himself:

No one deserves to die the way he did....

oh how sad for the mother! The father and other families as well, looked like he was TRYING to change, never know though.

Left to right:
Miles Jonathan Allen, Breylon Wendell Garland and Keith Jerome Roberts Jr.

...Police are searching for a fourth suspect, known only as "Rahim". Turner said the man is a former Morehouse student who still frequents the campus, and is an associate of the three suspects in custody...
...Turner said the 23-year-old victim was repeatedly beaten, stomped and stabbed at his home prior to being bound, gagged and doused with a flammable liquid. Walker was left in the trunk of his vehicle, where he was found weeks later...

They thought 3000 dollars would be laying around for them to confiscate. But they got 20. Evil greedy perps who never need to see the daylight ever again.

How much more can a family bear?

Theodore Holliman, aka Rahim Muhammad

This makes you wonder if Rahim was at the funeral.

I was wondering the same thing. I also wonder where the pall bearer was when he was stabbed....walking with the casket or sitting down? That is really bizarre. Wonder if the man who was stabbed was also a college student or someone the murdered man had known from childhood. Sounds like maybe someone had it out for him and the murdered man maybe for the same reason.

It bothers me that... whoever... cut the murdered man's dreadlocks off. That sounds like a hate crime. Whoever murdered him went way overboard in murdering him. I wonder if they had planned to set him on fire in the trunk of his car but something scared them off. Why pour lighter fluid or whatever it was all over him if they weren't going to set him on fire?

I will be curious to see if the 3 they have arrested are white guys or not. Maybe jealousy because he had a recording studio...going to college...lived in a house, etc. If he had started going to church and was telling his mom all about it and was excited about it...it doesn't sound like he had fallen in with a wrong crowd unless it had just happened.

His poor family. How awful to know that your son died such a horrible death. Torture and everything...why?

The poor family...things just become worse and worse...

...Morehouse College student Carlnell James Walker Jr. was still alive when some of his attackers threw him into the trunk of a car and left Walker for dead, a Clayton County police detective testified Thursday morning...

...They could hear the victim yelling from inside the trunk," Detective Stefan Schindler said at a probable cause hearing...

...He said the men tied up Walker, 23, with a computer cable, beat him with fists and a hammer, stabbed him with a pocketknife and stomped and disfigured him over six hours before putting him into the car truck, Schindler said...

And he was still able to yell after being thrown in the trunk? He must have been one tough dude.

Morehouse attempts to learn from tragic loss

Every Thursday, for an hour before noon, students at the historically black, all-male Morehouse College fill the campus auditorium for a rousing lesson on what it means to not only be a man, but a Morehouse man.

The speakers — usually culled from the college's many illustrious graduates — speak of an air of expectancy. They talk of the crown the school holds above its students' heads and challenge those listening to grow tall enough to wear it. They remind those in attendance how they have beaten the odds at a time when more black men are in jail than in college. They urge them "to have their brother's back."

It is little wonder then that the college, in recent weeks, has been struggling to understand how its teachings might have been so disregarded by four of its students that they now stand accused of torturing and killing a fellow Morehouse brother. Officials at the college also are left wondering what, if anything, they can learn from the brutal slaying.

Carlnell James Walker Jr., police say, was beaten, stomped, stabbed and tortured for more than six hours on June 21 by four current and former Morehouse students in an off-campus house. Authorities say the men were after $3,000 they believed Walker had received from an insurance settlement.

The men — all from "well-established" upper-middle class homes, according to Clayton County police Detective Stefan Schindler — bound and gagged Walker, 23, and left him to die in the trunk of a dusty, broken-down Oldsmobile parked in the garage of the Riverdale home he rented, police say.

His attackers made off with only $20.

On Friday, two suspects stood before a judge in a Clayton County courtroom where they were denied bond. A bond hearing for a third suspect will be held later. The men have not yet entered pleas. A fourth suspect, police say, is still on the run.

Among the alleged assailants, Miles Jonathan Allen, 21, and Breylon Wendell Garland, 20, are current students. Keith Jerome Roberts Jr., 22, is no longer enrolled. And the wanted man, 30-year-old Theodore Paul Holliman, aka Rahim Muhammad, once attended the school but most recently just hung around campus.

The Clayton district attorney's office said Friday that the facts of the case as they now stand "could certainly merit" seeking the death penalty.

Following the arrests, condemnation and disbelief rang out on campus.

School President Walter Massey, in a July 21 letter to staff and students, called it an "emotional blow to our community."

"The most difficult challenge I have as president is to receive news about the death of a student," he wrote. "Today, my grief, questions and concerns have been compounded by learning that four current and former Morehouse students have been implicated in Carlnell's death."

The 139-year-old college boasts a long list of high-achievers: Late Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson, former Surgeon General David Satcher, Olympian Edwin Moses, actor Samuel L. Jackson and director Spike Lee, to name a few.

It was this aura, known as the "Morehouse mystique," that prompted Walker — who was expelled from his California high school for drug possession — to clean up his act, move across the country and enroll here. It was also what drew Allen and Garland, their lawyers said.

Why the suspects may have failed to embrace the "mystique" is something the college is coming to terms with.

"We already have begun to try to better understand what we can about the young men involved in this matter to the end that we can better serve all of the Morehouse students we seek to develop," Massey said.

Gruesome crime scene....

From April 2012:

Allen was found guilty in August 2009 of malice murder, two counts of aggravated assault, kidnapping, false imprisonment, and burglary. He was sentenced to two life sentences, plus 70 years in jail, to be served consecutively.

Garland was acquitted of all charges against him two months later.

Holliman plead guilty to one of the burglary charges in September 2010, in a negotiated plea, while the other charges against him were dropped. He was given a suspended sentence of 10 years to serve.

http://www.news-daily.com/news/2012/apr/27/jury-finds-roberts-guilty-2006-murder/

The jury convicted Keith Jerome Roberts of malice murder, felony murder, kidnapping, aggravated assault and false imprisonment, in connection with Walker’s death in the summer of 2006...

The only evidence prosecutors had to tie Roberts to the crime scene was a fingerprint found on the glass globe from an oil lamp in Walker’s living room.

Roberts was sentenced to life per Georgia DOC:
