Circumstances of Disappearance
Alexia was last seen in the Elk Grove area of California on June 1, 1997. Her parents have been convicted of her murder. Her older sister described in court how her mother and stepfather dismembered Alexia's dead body with a pruning saw, then incinerated the body parts in the family fireplace. Her ashes were allegedly dumped in the American River.

Tragic - why cant these parents just arrange foster care or adoption for their children instead of letting things get to these sorts of things?

I mean its not just a spur of the moment thing that you turn around and murder your child - if i ever felt I was about to start harming my children or even had those sorts of thoughts I would ask for help.

I think half the time parents have the kids for some extra income. It makes me sooo cross.

God bless your soul little angel *advertiser censored*

Question: Why is she listed as "missing" when the parents were convicted of incinerating her?

I don't know. They didn't find her remains, but that is weird that she is listed as missing.

Did LE ever take the fireplace ashes and test them or use luminol in the house?

I assume it's because her body is still missing.

Next month marks the 15th anniversary of this little girl's murder.

2014:

A woman who forced her two daughters to drink bleach-laced milkshakes and helped dispose of the younger girl’s body in 1997 has been denied parole.

Barbara Carrasco was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison...

Both Barbara and Larry Carrasco were methamphetamine users and at some point in the spring or early summer of 1997, the couple became convinced that the daughters, 13-year-old Jessica Reale and 6-year-old Alexia Reale, were possessed by demons, authorities said. They locked the girls in a bedroom and over a five-day period forced them to drink bleach-laced milkshakes, believing this would exorcise the demons.

At some point, the couple realized that Jessica was helping her sister vomit up the milkshakes, so they separated the girls, locking Alexia in a closet. After five days, Alexia died...

Larry Carrasco, now 66 years old, was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison and is at California State Prison, Corcoran.

Details of Disappearance

Alexia lived with her mother and stepfather, Barbara and Larry Carrasco, and her older sister in Elk Grove, California in 1997. Photos of Barbara and Larry are posted with this case summary.

Alexia's sister told authorities that their family life had been relatively normal until February 1997, when Larry suddenly stopped working and he and Barbara began speaking about demons and vampires inhabiting both Alexia and her sister. It was later learned that Larry and Barbara were using methamphetamine at the time, causing them both to behave irrationally.

Alexia's sister said that physical and mental abuse began occurring in their household during the winter of 1997. Her sister claimed that Barbara intentionally burned Alexia on the back of one of her feet with a cigarette lighter, among other abusive incidents.

Alexia's sister stated Larry and Barbara forced her and Alexia to drink beverages mixed with bleach in late May 1997. This was apparently an effort to "cleanse" the children of their supposed possessions. Alexia's sister said that they were instructed to drink the concoction for eight consecutive days.

She stated that she last saw Alexia lying motionless on the floor of the family's residence sometime around June 1, 1997. Barbara was standing next to the child, who was apparently pale and appeared to be deceased. According to Alexia's sister, Barbara attempted CPR efforts before realizing Alexia was dead.

Alexia's sister told investigators that Larry and Barbara dismembered Alexia's body in a closet with a pruning saw shortly after her death. She stated that the child's remains were then incinerated in the family's fireplace and tossed into the Sacramento River, along with the tools used in the dismemberment.

Alexia's sister admitted she initially lied to authorities when they began investigating Alexia's disappearance during the summer of 1997. She told police that Alexia was living with her biological father in Illinois. Alexia's sister was apparently instructed by Larry and Barbara on what to tell authorities should questions about Alexia's whereabouts surface.

The abuse patterns were discovered when one of the girl's teachers noticed chemical burns on Alexia's sister's body after the school year began in the fall of 1997. Alexia's sister then told authorities that Larry had doused her with bleach in another effort to "exorcise" her demons. The truth about Alexia's disappearance was uncovered, as her sister told the entire story to investigators.

Larry and Barbara were convicted of Alexia's murder and additional child abuse charges in 2000. Larry is currently serving a 40-year-to-life prison sentence, while Barbara is serving 15 years to life. Alexia's remains have never been located.
