    JMK's Laptop

I have been reading and hearing about a laptop brought back with JMK from Thailand. My question regarding the laptop is if they find child porn , whose Jurisdiction will it fall under to Prosecute? If the crimes occured in Thailand does it go back to Thailand? Can the US Prosecute him for crimes he may have committed in Thailand?

Apparently, it may be possible for JMK to be prosecuted for crimes commited in Thailand - this would be federally under US Sexual Tourism laws. This would apply if he had any illegal contact with any child and I believe it also may apply if he distributed any illegal images as well.

This is just my general understanding of what he could possibly face...

I heard this being discussed yesterday, but am totally lost about this law. I don't understand, since he was in Thailand and it's his computer, and he was brought back to the U.S. on a Colorado warrant re: Ramsey. What is this "U.S. Sexual Tourism" law?

See especially the second to last paragraph - if JMK did anything in Thailand to a child and it can be proven, it seems to me he could face 30 years in prison in the US, according to this law.

It doesn't even seem to require that he went to Thailand for that express purpose, at least as I am reading it, anyway.

Also, from the same site, I wonder if they could charge him with this - if he has pornogrpahy on his harddrive and he brought it back with him from Thailand, could it not be construed as importing? It certainly seems to carry a much more hefty penalty than the 1 year less time served he seems likely to receive for his California charges...

    18 USC 2260
Importation of child pornography (max 10 years)
