Since we have so little support for the mentally ill, we've reverted to something close to the medieval idea of a bedlam - just locking the mentally ill together, with no effective treatment.
Think of how many lives could be saved, how many crimes, druggies, need not happen if the mentally ill were properly hospitalized and treated when they cannot manage their own lives...
