Badly decomposed body found in trash bag

Friday September 08, 2006
PHILADELPHIA (AP) A badly decomposed woman's body was found Friday in a garbage bag in a trash-strewn and overgrown vacant lot, authorities said.

The body of a woman who appeared to be in her 30s was discovered Friday morning by a man who smelled a foul odor as he walked by the lot, police Sgt. Bob Wilkins said.

A spokesman for the Medical Examiner's Office said the body, which was not immediately identified, would be examined Saturday.

There is another report of a 39 y/o woman missing. Shouldn't be hard to determine whether it is her - she has a distinctive tatoo. We'll see....

Never mind...the body is black, the missing woman is white. Of course, the missing white woman is on the front page of the Daily News. Aimee Lafferty. Needs medication.

**Her identity appears to have been known a few weeks after the body was found....fwiw.

"Death of woman, 22, still under investigation The cause of death of a 22-year-old woman whose body was found stuffed in a trash bag in a blighted vacant lot in Nicetown is still being investigated by the Medical Examiner's Office, homicide detectives said last night. Police identified the woman as Jamie Thompson, of the 5100 block of Harlan Street, West Philadelphia. Detectives said they had not determined how Thompson died and were careful not to classify the case as a homicide until toxicology tests are completed. The Medical Examiner's Office said those tests could take several more weeks. On Sept. 8, a passerby notified police of the body when he was overcome by a strong stench coming from the lot in the 1700 block of Blavis Street in Nicetown. "

Ah, I was just looking at this thread and wondering what happened. So glad she was identified quickly!
