...murders on the University of Wisconsin (Madison) campus...

I was a student there when several of these tragedies occurred...

Police still have not solved many of them...

For background on these cases:

On the Donna Mraz case in particular, which still haunts me...I was out near Camp Randall Stadium that night walking to my boyfriend's (now hubby) apartment, and heard screaming which I ran towards, and saw a commotion followed by an ambulance...

Also, where is Leo Burt (fugitive)?

Book excerpt about Donna's murder:

https://books.google.com/books?id=f...ed=0CEIQ6AEwBg#v=onepage&q=donna mraz&f=false

To summarize, she got off work at the Bittersweet Restaurant on State Street about 11:30 pm, and took the bus to her apartment near Camp Randall Stadium. She was walking past the stadium when she was stabbed repeatedly, she screamed, the killer fled, no sexual assault, no robbery.

Two other women had been attacked in the area that week. One was found beaten and raped in a parking lot behind the Shuffle Inn and the second was raped the next day in her apartment.

Donna's body was exhumed in late 1982 in order to compare her teeth to bite marks on the arm of Lonnie Taylor, who was accused of stalking a Camp Randall woman, but no link was established.

I'm amazed that there were 10 rapes and/or assaults in Madison, June 6-June 27, 1982, immediately preceding the Donna Mraz murder and none of them were solved either. The article was written by Marvin Balousek. He wrote 101 Wisconsin Unsolved Mysteries.

Donna Mraz was from Delavan, Walworth County, Wisconsin.

These were very violent attacks, mostly by a black man with a knife, short Afro haircut, about 5'9" or so. Most attacks happened when women were walking outside, on a sidewalk or in a parking lot.

Donna was the only one killed, from what I've read at the links above, but some of the women were sexually assaulted. I wonder if there is any DNA left for LE to test?

Replying to an old post, I know, but an update about Burt:
More than 50 years after a Vietnam War-era bombing on the University of Wisconsin campus that killed a researcher, the FBI on Thursday released age-processed photographs of a suspect who has thus far evaded law enforcement and been referred to as “Wisconsin's state ghost.”

[...]

Burt, who grew up in the Philadelphia suburbs, came to Wisconsin on an ROTC scholarship and joined the rowing team, vanished. One former prosecutor called him “Wisconsin’s state ghost.”

[...]

The FBI's Milwaukee field office on Thursday released the photos that envision Burt as a 75-year-old man. The photo was done in conjunction with the 53rd anniversary of the bombing, which was last week, said FBI spokesperson Leonard Peace.

Recently I have been thinking that the authorities should look into Jerry Lynn Burns, the murderer of Michelle Martinko, as a potential suspect. Both murders were vicious knife attacks on beautiful blonde girls.
