Police searching for woman who may have been kidnapped

DAYTONA BEACH — Police here are looking for a 42-year-old armed man they believe may have kidnapped his former girlfriend.

A niece of 50-year-old Karen Kummerer told detectives her aunt was being stalked by Joseph Scott Freeman and that he had made several threatening telephone calls to her in the past few days. When the niece, Brenna Randall tried to call Kummerer repeatedly Monday morning and got no response, she called her aunt's office at Bert Fish Medical Center in New Smyrna Beach.

When Randall was told Kummerer had called in sick, she knew something was awry.

Kummerer finally called Randall late Monday afternoon and told her she was with Freeman, but she was crying hysterically and also said the suspect had threatened to kill her if she called authorities.

Investigators said Kummerer had obtained a permanent injunction for protection against Freeman on Nov. 21 following the telephone calls he made to her and another incident on Nov. 13 when he jumped into her car as she waited at an intersection near her home.

Anyone with information is asked to call Daytona Beach Sgt. Billy Walden at (386) 671-671-5123, or, Detective J. Hawkins at (386) 671-5209.

The FBI is now involved in the search for a missing Daytona Beach woman police say was kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend.

Fifty-year-old Karen Kummerer hasn't been seen since Monday. Investigators believe she was abducted by 42-year-old Joseph Freeman, who is on probation for a 2002 armed home invasion conviction. He's also wanted on several warrants.

Investigators have now released pictures taken at a Bank of America in St. Augustine on Tuesday morning. They say Kummerer withdrew $500 while Freeman watched. Police say the pictures tell a story of their own.

I hope this criminal keeps his word to his parents and doesn't hurt this woman. At least LE is taking this case seriously and hopfully will find her soon. If the guy was smart he would let her go and then try to escape if he thinks that he can. What an insult to abduct a person and then make them take money out of their own account to run on. You would think that these criminals could at least have their own money!
