A new country song by Jason Micheal Carrol is a good public reminder i hope to anyone who listens to country music how important it is to report if they suspect a child is being abused.

Here are the lyrics of the song. This song instanly made me think of Nixmary Brown the little girl tortured and murdered by her parents last year ( just over a year to the date of her death now)--- the system so failed to protect her and while so many suspected and physically evident how physically neglected she was ..no one did anything to save her.

Alyssa Lies - Jason Michael Carroll

Genre/Lang. : Country

My little girl met a new friend,
just the other day,
on the playground at school
between the tires and the swings

But she came home with tear-filled eyes,
and she said to me "Daddy, Alyssa lies"

Well I just brushed it off at first,
'cause I didn't know how much my little girl had been hurt
or the things she had seen.
I wasn't ready when I said "You can tell me"

and she said...

"Alyssa lies to the classroom,
Alyssa lies everyday at school,
Alyssa lies to the teachers
as she tries to cover every bruise"

My little girl laid her head down that night to go to sleep.
As I stepped out the room, I heard her say a prayer so soft and sweet
"God bless my mom and my Dad
and my new friend, Alyssa
*oh*I know she needs you bad

Because Alyssa lies to the classroom,
Alyssa lies everyday at school,
Alyssa lies to the teachers
as she tries to cover every bruise"

I had the worst night of sleep in years
as I tried to think of a way to calm her fears
I knew just what it was I had to do *I knew exactly what I had to do*
but when we got to school on Monday I heard the news

My little girl asked me why everybody looked so sad
the lump in my throat grew bigger
with every question that she asked.
Until I felt the tears run down my face
and I told her that Alyssa wouldn't be at school today

'Cause she doesn't lie in the classroom
she doesn't lie anymore at school
Alyssa lies with Jesus
because there's nothin' anyone would do

Tears filled my eyes when my little girl asked me why
Alyssa lies
*Oh Daddy, oh* Daddy tell me why
Alyssa lies

I dont listen to country but that sounds like a great song to remind people.

Nixmary touched so many people. That little girls death broke my heart, maybe this song can save some lives.

Oh my....what sad, sad lyrics. A sad reality for some kids, though.:banghead:

I would love to have the power to just instantly zap any child abuser into outer space. Just make them "be gone" forever.

Same here- Just zap and blast them all to hell

That is a really nice song. There was another song about child abuse called "Paper Angels" I think, that was really beautiful.

I had to report my neighbour to CPS about eight years ago and it was one of the most devastating things I've ever had to do. I still hear that little girl screaming in my mind. :furious:

Another song about child abuse is "My Name is Luka" by Suzanne Vega. It's such a great song.

My name is Luka
I live on the second floor
I live upstairs from you
Yes, I think you've seen me before
If you hear something late at night
Some kind of trouble
Some kind of fight
Just don't ask me what it was
Just don't ask me what it was
Just don't ask me what it was
I think it's 'cause I'm clumsy
I try not to talk too loud
Maybe it's because I'm crazy
I try not to act too proud
They only hit until you cry
And after that you don't ask why
You just don't argue anymore
You just don't argue anymore
You just don't argue anymore
Yes I think I'm okay
I walked into the door again
Well, if you ask that's what I'll say
And it's not your business anyway
I guess I'd like to be alone
With nothing broken, nothing thrown
Just don't ask me how I am
Just don't ask me how I am
Just don't ask me how I am

Samhoney, that is one of my favorite songs ever (in a strange way). I used to have it on tape way-back-when Suzanne's album first came out. I have been abused literally all my life, from when I was a baby (not saying this to get pity, but as it is - a fact) and that song was my life line for a long time.

This part always made me choke up:

"They only hit until you cry
And after that you don't ask why
You just don't argue anymore"

It's so true.

I think I remember Suzanne Vega actually wrote this about a neighbor child she grew up with.

The one I was thinking of is "Concrete Angel"

Concrete Angel

She walks to school with the lunch she packed
Nobody knows what she's holdin' back
Wearin' the same dress she wore yesterday
She hides the bruises with linen and lace

The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask
It's hard to see the pain behind the mask
Bearing the burden of a secret storm
Sometimes she wishes she was never born

Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel

Somebody cries in the middle of the night
The neighbors hear, but they turn out the lights
A fragile soul caught in the hands of fate
When morning comes it'll be too late

Repeat Chorus

A statue stands in a shaded place
An angel girl with an upturned face
A name is written on a polished rock
A broken heart that the world forgot

Repeat Chorus

Theres a new song out on the hip-hop stations that I've tried to catch a few times now; talks something about sexual abuse and such. There's also another country song that came out about the same time as Concrete Angel I wish I could remember - something about Jesus being there when the girl was behind the couch as her father beat her mother...
I think its great when an artist is willing to tackle such a difficult topic. It opens channels for conversation; helping some to know that they're not alone, and others to realize that these things do happen.

I have been searching /googling to try and find out any information on Nixmary's justice and cant find anything except her sad life story and what happened to her.

Does anyone know if the 's have went to trial for her murder yet?

I have reported child abuse with 2 children , one a niece and another child i used to babysit for both times it fell through as though i had exaggerated something that wasnt child abuse.
I have no regrets though of trying to help and at least in my niece's case the uncle(her mothers 17 yr old brother) who'd abused her was ordred to therapy and my niece as well. So whatever social service uncovered there must of had some truth to it, and i stand to believe my 7 yr old niece.( 7 at the time)

I turned in some creep once after a little friend of my daughter's told her that she was being sexually molested. The guy went to the pen, the girl was taken away and went to a good home, and I was so glad. Of course, there is the other side of the coin. Some people can go way too far with calling in on parents. The school especially. After they called CPS on me for temporarily stopping my grandson's ADD medication, I almost have a phobia now about answering a knock at my door, or about someone coming and taking away my grandkids and that is definitely not good for a family. I won't even talk to any relatives, teachers or doctors openly now for fear of drawing any attention to ourselves. I keep my front door shut all the time and I'm even afraid of revealing my age for fear that someone might think that I'm not able to care for them which is irrational. I freak out every time one of the kids gets into trouble at school or over every remark a teacher makes to any of the kids.

Californiacarrie...is this it?

[Hook - Mary J. Blige]
Runaway love
Runaway love
Runaway love
Runaway love
Runaway love
Runaway love
Runaway love
Runaway love

[Verse 1 - Ludacris]
Now little lisa is only 9 years old
Shes tryin to figure out why the world is so cold
Why shes all all alone and they never met her family
Mamas always gone and she never met her daddy
Part of her is missin and nobody will listenin
Mama is on drugs gettin high up in the kitchen
Bringin home men at different hours of the night
Startin with laughs--usually endin in a fight
Sneak into her room while her mamas knocked out
Tryin to have his way and little lisa says 'ouch'
She tries to resist but then all he does is beat her
Tries to tell her mom but her mama don't believe her
Lisa is stuck up in the world on her own
Forced to think that hell is a place called home
Nothin else to do but some get some clothes and pack
She says shes bout to run away and never come back.

[Hook - Mary J. Blige]
Runaway love [x8]

[Verse 2 - Ludacris]
Little nicole is only 10 years old
Shes steady tryin to figure why the world is so cold
Why shes not pretty and nobody seems to like her
Alcoholic step dad always wanna strike her
Yells and abuses, leaves her with some bruises
Teachers ask questions she makin up excuses
Bleedin on the inside, cryin on the out
Its only one girl really knows what she about
Her name is lil stacy and they become friends
Promise that they always be tight til the end
Until one day lil stacy gets shot
A drive by bullet went stray up on her block
Now nicole stuck up in the world on her own
Forced to think that hell is a place called home
Nothin else to do but some get some clothes and pack
She says shes bout to run away and never come back.

[Hook - Mary J. Blige]
Runaway love [x8]

[Verse 3 - Ludacris]
Little erica is eleven years old
Shes steady tryin to figure why the world is so cold
So she pops x to get rid of all the pain
Cause shes havin sex with a boy whos sixteen
Emotions run deep and she thinks shes in love
So theres no protection hes usin no glove
Never thinkin bout the consequences of her actions
Livin for today and not tomorrows satisfaction
The days go by and her belly gets big
The father bails out he aint ready for a kid
Knowin her mama will blow it all outta proportion
Plus she lives poor so no money for abortion
Erica is stuck up in the world on her own
Forced to think that hell is a place called home
Nothin else to do but get her clothes and pack
She say shes about to run away and never come back.

[Hook - Mary J. Blige]
Runaway love [repeats til end]

CC I The song you are thinking about is The Little Girl by John Michael montgomery. Yes it still brings tears to my eyes.

THE LITTLE GIRL
By: John Michael Montgomery
Corrected by: guitarcomet@always-online.com
Her parents never took the young girl to church...
Never spoke of His name...
Never read her his word...
Two non-believers walking lost in this world...
Took their baby with them, what a sad little girl...

Her daddy drank all day and mommy did drugs...
Never wanted to play or give kisses and hugs...
She'd watch the tv and sit there on the couch...
While her mom fell asleep and her daddy went out...

And the drinking and the fighting...
Just got worse every night...
Behind their couch she'd be hiding...
Oh what a sad little life...

And like it always does, the bad just got worse...
With every slap and every curse...
Until her daddy in a drunk rage one night...
Used a gun on her mom and then took his life...

And some people from the city took the girl far away...
To a new mom and a new dad, kisses and hugs everyday...

Her first day of Sunday School...
Her teacher walked in...
And a small little girl starred at a picture of Him...
She said I know that man up there on that cross...
I don’t know His name but I know he got off...
Cause he was there in my old house...
And held me close to his side...
As I hid there behind our couch...
The night that my parents died.

As a teacher, I have reported a number of situations. Once a family made their 15-year old boy live in a box. Yes, a big box made from 2x4s with a blanket inside. No charges. Another time a girl called me while her father was trying to push her out of a moving car. She now lives with her mom but no charges were filed. The system is a mess. Many parents do things like disallow a shower more than once a week - things like that. There are times I must pick my battles.

That's a good one---a very powerful song where the abused takes matters into her own hands.

One song I always hated was by Bruce Springsteen, and I always hated it because he reminded me of a creepy child molester singing it....I don't know the name but it starts out "Hey little girl, is your Daddy home, Did he go and leave you all alone---I've got a bad desire, I'm on fire". I always wondered why Bruce Springsteen would sing such a disgusting song that seems to be advocating child sexual abuse. Too creepy for my likes!

Yeah, that song has always creeped me out. I also think "Young Girl" by Union Gap is awful, too:

Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run, girl
You're much too young, girl
