NEW ORLEANS - Police plan to set up checkpoints beginning Wednesday to help curb a crime wave that has claimed nine lives since the start of 2007, Mayor Ray Nagin said, stopping short of imposing a curfew on this tourism-dependent city.
Quite frankly, I'm glad to see anything at all done.
I do wonder though, Mardis Gras is coming up. How will they cope then? I plan on watching the news and newspapers in the next couple of days to see just where the areas are and if the plans change when, or if, they see an impact on the tourist influx and their money. There was a shooting in Bourbon street after all. Will they be spread too thin with the extra security needed for the extra people visiting Bourbon street? Where will these extras come from?
Interesting to watch how this all plays out.
