DURAND, Ill. -- The remains of an Elm Grove woman, missing since 2000, have been found in Illinois.

A young man walking in the woods near Durand, Illinois spotted the remains of Sandra Daniels during the afternoon of Jan. 7. According to the Winnebago County (Illinois) Coroner, the remains had been there since 2000. Most of Daniels' remains were recovered.

accd'ing to one news article - husband filed for divorce 3 weeks after she went missing.

Elm Grove is a VERY wealthy suburb of Milwaukee.

ROCKFORD, Ill. - Winnebago County Sheriff Richard Meyers said Monday evidence in the death of Sandra Daniels, missing from her home in Elm Grove for more than six years, is going to be resubmitted to a crime lab. The skeletal remains of Daniels, 49, were found Jan. 7 along a rural road near Durand, Ill., by a 15-year-old boy looking for aluminum cans.

"We met last week with the Elm Grove Police Department and we’re going through the information they provided to us," Meyers said. "We will be resubmitting some of the evidence to the crime lab for further evaluation."

A woman whose remains were found in Illinois six years after she disappeared died of blunt trauma to the head, a coroner said Friday...

Sue Fiduccia, the coroner in Winnebago County, Ill., said Friday they knew her skull was fractured when they found her, but a forensic pathologist and forensic anthropologist had to determine when it was fractured. They told her the results Tuesday, she said.

Daniels' skull was fractured more than once by blunt trauma to the head, she said.

Sandra's murder is currently listed as a cold case with the Winnebago County SO:

George R. Daniels, her husband, told neighbors he went for a walk and returned to find her gone from their Elm Grove, WI home June 3, 2000.
Sandra Mae Daniels (nee Mateski) was last seen driving away from her home between 11 AM and noon on June 3, 2000. (Article doesn't say who saw her driving away)
Car found two weeks after disappearance in an unnamed Chicago suburb, 100 miles away from where her body was found.
Remains found Jan 7, 2007 on a roadside near Durand, Il, west of Rockford, Ill. Fractured skull from blunt force trauma. It would be interesting to know which Chicago suburb her car was found in and why that info wasn't publically released. Was there a missing persons report filed after she disappeared? Who filed it? When was it filed? Obviously there should have been a report filed when the car was found two weeks later in the Chicago suburb.

George R. Daniels filed for divorce June 28, 2000.

Her obit states she lived with an aunt and uncle, who lived in La Grange, Ill, a suburb of Chicago, when she was 16. She then moved in with another aunt and uncle in who lived in Downers Grove, IL, another suburb of Chicago.

She was married March 15, 1968 to Edward Fugate in La Grange, IL, where one of her aunts and uncles lived, before moving to Stanley, WI. Edward Fugate committed suicide with a large caliber rifle, 17 Oct 1968, at her grandparents home, 8 months after they were married. He was 18 years old. Her obit states it was a fatal accident. Sandra found the body.

She divorced from her second husband, Ron Jarosch, of Eau Claire, WI. They were married Nov 1,1969.

She married for a third time to George Daniels of Milwaukee, Aug 22, 1992. George R. Daniels obit can be found on page 4 of the Kenosha News 15 Feb 2010. Survived by his partner, Georgette Goundie and his sons, Edward Fugate and Robert Jarosch.

Sandra M. Daniels

The skeletal remains of Sandra Daniels, 56, were found Sunday Jan. 7, 2007 on Rawley Road, north of Yale Bridge Road. Daniels, of Elm Grove Village, Wisconsin, was reported missing by her husband in June 2000. Police say she left Wisconsin on her own. (How did they come to that conclusion?)
