Estimated age: 25 - 45 years old
Approximate Height and Weight: 5' 5" - 5' 9"; 130-160 lbs.
Distinguishing Characteristics: Brown hair; small to average frame. Scar, old right mastoid; prominent tibial tubuerosities (?Osgood-Schlatter disease?)
Dentals: Available. 8 teeth with amalgam restorations; 9 teeth missing ante-mortem.
Clothing: Left black canvas low-top "basketball" shoe (size 8 1/2); a pair of white socks; jockey shorts (small 30-32); red "Superman" t-shirt; pair of "H.I.S." dress blue jeans.
Fingerprints: Not Available

Case History
The victim was located in Raleigh, North Carolina on March 3, 1984.
This gentleman's body was spotted by a railroad engerineer as his train moved slowly past the area. The body was on an embankment in a small ravine between the railroad tracks and the U.S. Federal Warehouse just off of Garner Road in Raleigh.

I started looking for possibles for this UID, and came up with a couple:

Mark Skinner Clarke

His height and age are within range. He has light-brown hair (consistent to the UID). His DLC is about 3 months prior to the discovery of the remains. He was wandering around throughout the GA, SC, NC area, so Raleigh NC is very consistent. The beard makes it a little difficult to evaluate his chin and jawline, but from what I can see, His facial shape is pretty close, although his temples seem slightly narrower than the UID's.

Alexander Edwin Shaw

His facial shape is closer to the UID than Mark Skinner's is. The circumstances are not inconsistent, and the distance between his last known location and Raleigh is about 100 miles.

However, He is a couple years younger than the lower age limit, and an inch taller than the upper limit.

ETA: On second look, his jaws are much more squared.

Both good possibles Carl. I think Mark Skinner Clarks hairline makes it too difficult to determine of the temples are narrower or not.

Based on the recent photos where we've seen a formerly unidentified person next to his or her sketch, I doubt whether the sketch conveys the degree of precision to eliminate either of these guys on the slight differences. Clarke looks like a really good possibility based on circumstances as well.

I know California is a long way from NC but who knows.
The spacing of the eyes look close to me and the nose. The chin appears sharp like the john doe too. What do you think?

the distance is not so much an issue as the lack of a stomach scar on the UID and the fact that Gregory is taller than the upper range of the estimate for the UID.

since the remains were skeletal with a PM interval of about a year, we wouldn't know one way or the other regarding whether he had a stomach scar.

unless his bone was scarred, I'm wondering how they concluded the UID had a "right mastoid scar"?

I read that to mean he had flesh still. keep in mind we've seen UID which were supposedly skeletal remains yet they got tattoos and fingerprints.

Whoa! Edwin Shaw looks like a DEAD RINGER for this guy! I can't believe how much it looks like him. And Shaw was ruled out? Could they have made a mistake in excluding him? I don't mean to doubt their skills but humans make mistakes all the time. It happens.

The mastoid is the part of the skull below the ear, more or less, so I suspect they do mean the bone was scarred. HealthLine describes mastoidectomy: http://www.healthline.com/health/mastoidectomy

So it might indicate somebody who had hearing problems in life.

Age at Time of Disappearance: 29 years old

Height and Weight at Time of Disappearance: 5' 6"; 150-160 lbs.

Distinguishing Characteristics: White male. Brown hair; blue eyes. Left eye unique pupil; bad balance - walks with limp. No sense of smell; bad reaction to alcohol due to bad balance.

Marks, Scars: Head scar from surgery on left forehead back and over the left ear, obscured by hair; puncture scar lower back; trachea scar; ankle scar.

Dentals: Teeth in bad shape or may have dentures.

Circumstances of Disappearance

Osborn was last seen by a family member who dropped him at the bus terminal in Apopka, Florida about 1982 or 1983. Ricky had a bus ticket to Santa Cruz, California.
Since that time two calls were received by family members. The first call came from an unknown law enforcement agency on an unknown date to his mom to confirm Ricky's identity. The second call was from Ricky to his Aunt claiming he feared for his life when the phone went dead on his end. The date and location of that call is also unknown.
The family has been trying to get a missing person report filed for Ricky, but because of the circumstances of his disappearance, have so far, been unable to.
