DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -- A dozen pit bull terriers seized in police raids have been put to death because of fears the dogs would attack employees caring for them at an animal shelter.

How sad for the dogs, but when they have been fighting dogs, I wonder if there is any chance of their becoming housepets. I would not want to chance it.

If you ever watch the animal cops shows on animal planet, most ASPCA's or similar groups have very specific rules about pits.

Usually, any adults that have been involved with fighting are put down. Puppies that seem more docile are evaluated closely and adopted to appropriate homes.

It is sad for the dogs in this story, but unfortunately, there was probably no alternative.

I wish they would. Although, I'd much prefer to have them all put in a ring together to fight to the death until just one is left. We can hang him in the town square.
