Husband Questioned in Wife's 2005 Slaying
Raven and Janet Abaroa

Updated: Today at 6:28 p.m.
Durham — Police investigators spent the past week in Salt Lake City to interview the husband of a Durham woman who was slain in her home almost two years ago.

Raven Abaroa moved to Utah shortly after his wife, Janet, was killed in April 2005. The 25-year-old mother was found stabbed to death in a bedroom of her west Durham home.

Janet Abaroa was pregnant with her second child when she died. The couple's 6-month-old son was found unharmed nearby.

Raven Abaroa told police he found his wife's body after he returned home from an evening soccer game.

There's a video at the above link too. I just noticed it. Thanks Jess for the link.

From the video, "they have not named Abaroa a suspect, at this time."

Why, oh why not????? When will they???? I hope soon.

Oh, I would have loved to had been a fly on Raven's wall the day the FBI agent introduced himself. I bet Raven was about to s#@* himself. Wonder if he had his story straight?

I am very, very hopeful about this new development - not only to hear that they're still working the case but also to hear that the FBI is involved. I'm trying to not get too excited - we've thought we were close before only to be let down. Keeping my fingers crossed ...

I'm with you, Jersey... cautiously optimistic. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't do a happy dance when I read about this!

Me too, guera! :woohoo:

What I think is interesting is that the media even has this story. How did they learn of this development, I wonder? Tipped off by LE themselves? Interesting.

WOW!!!!!!! I logged in and got called away from computer and :woohoo:

Great News!

"Investigators would not say much about their work in Utah but said an FBI agent interviewed Raven Abaroa on Thursday."

Wow!!! Once again, this is exciting news!

Interesting sentence...

"Two months before his wife was killed, Abaroa was charged with embezzling $10,000 from his former employer. He later pleaded guilty and is halfway through a two-year probation sentence."

I was just thinking about this the other day. In August his probation is up on the Embezzlement - You all remember those EMBEZZLEMENT FELONIES he has on his record!

I'm wondering if Raven has done something else Illegal recently that got the FBI involved? Does anyone think he has done something else illegal, besides IMO being the murderer of his wife and unborn baby?

"Durham police have not called Raven Abaroa a suspect in his wife's death and said he was cooperative during the FBI interview last week."

 Ugh.....and why not - It's as plain as the nose on my face that he did it, why can't other's see it too? On the upside, they also did NOT rule him out as a suspect either!

IMO, since Raven is a sociopath, of course he was cooperative, but I bet you he whined and cried like a big old baby and even probably got angry <shades of Scott Peterson> and that they were wasting their time talking to him, because of course, he could never hurt anyone <cough-choke-sputter>! It's classic Sociopathacy!

He won't confess, no matter how many FBI personnel or Law Enforcement Investigator's question him. He's a sociopath, sociopath's don't have a conscience and don't have it in them to confess.

Still good to know that there are people out there still seeking Justice for Janet her unborn child and Kaiden and all Janet's family and friends.

<Rav, did you even cut a sweat??? Bet you are still cocky as ever, deny deny deny.......God knows, Janet's Knows, I know, what you did!

Wow, so I watched the video........and it comes out a little different than the written News Report on their website:

I took the liberty to transcribe the written words of the video for those that cannot get the video.

WRAL - Channel 5 - With Debra Morgan

"Who Killed Janet Abaroa?

The pregnant mother was found stabbed to death in her Durham home nearly two years ago.

There's new information tonight about the murder investigation. An FBI Agent in Utah questioned Abaroa's husband, Raven.

WRAL's, Julia Lewis has more information on the case:"

Julia Lewis:

"Janet Abaroa was 25 years old and pregnant with her second child when she died.

Her husband, Raven told police he found her in the couple's bedroom after he returned home from an evening soccer game.

Police say the young Mother was stabbed to death. The couples then 6-months old son, Kaiden, was found nearby, but was not hurt.

Investigator's say there was no signs of forced entry at the house, and police have maintained all along, this was not a random crime.

There are many indications the couple had financial problems. Their landlord was letting them live rent-free because they lost their jobs.

Two months before the murder, Raven Abaroa was charged with embezzling $10,000.00 from his employer. He later pleaded guilty and is now half way through a two-year probation sentence."

Debra Morgan:

"Durham Police were in Salt-Lake City Utah, for a week, they won't say what they were doing out there, they do say Abaroa did cooperate with the FBI agent who interviewed him.

Now police are reviewing the content of the interview, they are not calling Abaroa a suspect, at this time!"

Great Story....

One thing that kinda bugs me in these stories, is the sentence - the couple lost their jobs.

I believe this statement is incorrect. If I remember correctly and can find it here somewhere, if it had not already been archived, that Janet LEFT her job at Eurosports, voluntarily and it was out of embarassment and she felt bad because what her HUSBAND did.

There has not been one indication, one sign, whatsoever that Janet had prior knowledge, or new that her husband was an embezzler, a thief and she was NOT involved in the embezzlement.

Sorry had to get that off my chest...

This part is very interesting. I wonder how many of Durham's LE were in Utah for a week. I wonder if those that swear by Raven's innocence are starting to wonder. LE doesn't travel clear across the country nearly two years later if there isn't a suspect out there, IMO. A week is a long time - were they interviewing Raven's friends, family, girlfriend(s), boss(es) ... ? Were they following him? Were they in court trying to subpoena personal or financial information of Raven's?

If Durham LE was out there, I wonder why the FBI is involved. Is it only because he's an out-of-state resident at this point?

You're right, term. It was indeed one of the times that Janet had to suffer because of her husband's actions and decisions.

Just one time of many times, it seems.

I wonder how many other women, children, family members and friends, will end up suffering in one way or the other, because of things he has done.

A true sociopath, in every aspect.

Not sure, I have no clue, maybe it has to do with State Lines. I know we aren't going to hear from P.Ness himself here or his friends or family giving us the lowdown.

I wonder.....I know we all heard rumors of Raven having a girlfriend (which.....I'm sure he has dozens since going back out to Utah, and probably several all at the same time).

I wish these news stories got played out in Utah.

I wish Utah would do some sort of exclusive.

All I can think of is all the naive girls out in Utah, and this poor poor widower.....<imo murderer> throwing the pity party on how his wife was murdered.

Now that I think about it, does he even tell people his wife was murdered or does he still tell people she died....or she committed suicide?

I wish more people knew the true Raven, so they can keep their daughter's safe, away from this sociopath.

I would hope not. I think that they ought to be using this time wisely. Who knows how much time they might have left together?

Almost 2 years time enough, for them to wise up, to realize they have, IMO, a murderer in their midst.

I wonder what he's telling his family & friends about the interview.....oh they were questioning me because they think I have may clues to who really committed the murder? Oh, there was unusual sitings of aliens and did I see beaming lights after I arrived home from the soccer game?

I see, in the future, a defense team coming up with various red herrings....ie strange brown vans, massage therapist cultists, mafia's, gang activity, as in the Scott Peterson trial.

Remember Scottie driving over all those many miles with golf clubs, survival gear, clothing, $$$$$$ up the wazoo, viagra and condoms?

Is he going to run?

THOSE OF YOU IN UTAH - KEEP AN EYE ON HIM......I see him running, like the coward of a man he is.

So nice to log in and read such great news! But it makes me nervous on one level. I hope those in Raven's life will keep a watchful eye on Kaiden as well.

I wonder why the FBI is involved?

I don't see Raven running. He is too much of a coward to risk taking his life on the run - he'd have to give up his comfy scam artist life!!

On a serious note though, a week is a long time for LE to be out in Utah. And to have the FBI involved, it seems that the case has become much more serious.

I find it somewhat ironic now that Nifong has become a lameduck DA, there appears to be serious action with Janet's case.

These are two very significant facts, imo. I keep coming back to LE being in Utah for a week. That is a long time. I wonder at what point during the week they talked to Raven. Was it in the beginning and he was aware from that point on that they were there? Or did they talk to him at the end of the week, after investigating right under his nose without him ever realizing that they were there? What did they do the rest of the week? Did anyone tell Raven that LE came to them for interviews? Or was he taken by surprise?

So many questions ... I wish we had some idea of how this unfolded and what LE did for all of that time.
