A group of professional investigators is stepping in to help law enforcement officers solve a 61/2-year-old missing person case in Allen County.

The Kentucky Society of Professional Investigators cold case/missing person team is investigating the July 20, 2000, disappearance of Peggy Sue Ashley, 23. She had three young children at the time of her disappearance.

This is the first case the society's team has investigated in Kentucky, team leader Larry Nunes said. The team previously worked on a case in Ohio.

The team works at its own expense as a way to give back to the community, he said.

Ashley's vehicle was found in the parking lot of the A.O. Smith factory in Scottsville. She was last seen alive on a video surveillance camera at the factory at 2:07 a.m. July 20, 2000.

Allen County Sheriff's Detective Steve Wood said he agreed to allow the society's team to help because the case needs attention.

“It's a cold case, and we have so many active cases, it couldn't be completely investigated,” he said. “But I fully believe this case is solvable.”

Pieces of information have come into the sheriff's department over the years, but they have been investigated as far as they can be, Woods said.

“There are two good suspects in this case,” he said. “One suspect is better than the other.”

Woods said he thinks he knows what happened to Ashley - the issue is proving it.

There is rather more on this case in the old report here;

http://www.bgdailynews.com/foul-pla...cle_064553cd-7986-5bc5-8f5a-1cf7955abdd2.html

However, the general consensus does seem to be that she was probably killed rather than left. One thing which is very odd is the following LinkedIn profile;

https://www.linkedin.com/pub/peggy-sue-ashley-vinson/54/4b2/837

It is odd because it seems impossible that this relates to a different Peggy Sue given the unusual name and the fact that her children are likely too young to be on LinkedIn (even the oldest is still only 20 - I do not know his/her name). The oddity is that this cannot be an old profile left from before the disappearance as LinkedIn was not founded until 2003, three years after the disappearance.

"Allen County Sheriffs Department investigators suspect foul play in the case of a missing Adolphus woman.Peggy Sue Ashley Vinson, 23, a mother of three young children, last was seen alive around 2 a.m. July 29 on a video surveillance camera at the A.O. Smith electrical motor plant in Scottsville, Detective Steve Woods said"

"Vinsons babysitter, who was caring for the womans 8-month-old daughter, didnt report her missing until two days after she was to return home. When she did report Vinson missing, she called the Department of Social Services, not local law enforcement.Vinson doesnt have custody of her two oldest children ages 2 and 5 who live with their respective fathers. She has a history of leaving her children with sitters longer than the agreed-upon time, but in the past, she always has made contact with someone, Woods said"

I didn't read the article. I' m just wondering if she might have had a history of substance abuse and that could have been a factor in her disappearance (killed over drug debts etc) ...She looks several years older than early 20s in these pictures to me.

They realized very late that Smith is a person of interest in the case since he could have been convicted and sent to jail... hopefully one day we find out what really happened to her and her body is located..
rest in peace

I believe they knew it was CS from the beginning. They had to because he lied when he said he picked her up and took her to a payphone then brought her back. First why did she need a ride to the payphone she has a car she can drive herself. Secondly there were no calls made from that payphone and Third video shows him picking her up but never bringing him back. Why they didn't look at him at that time?
