This happened here in Indy about a 15 min drive from where I live. So sad.
Such senseless murder and injury.

Fear and outrage spread across a Southwestside neighborhood Tuesday after a woman was found fatally shot with her baby daughter sitting in the same room for nearly a day.

Asia M. Davis, 22, was killed and her 17-month-old daughter, Sarah London, was injured by a bullet fragment to her head, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Detective Todd Lappin said.
The child lay wounded for about 17 hours before her father returned to the family's Mars Hill home and discovered the bloody scene, police said.
"She is doing well at a hospital, however still in somewhat serious condition," Lappin said. "For that daughter to be injured in such a way is just ridiculous."
"These guys are cowards," he said. "I'm sure the community is not going to stand for this."
A man identified as Davis' husband found the body at 7:42 p.m. Monday in the 3200 block of Collier Street. He grabbed his daughter and ran outside yelling, "Someone killed my wife," Sgt. Matthew Mount said in a written statement.

Child of slain mom may go home The child, Sarah London, is in stable condition at Methodist Hospital. She will be released to her father, said Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Lt. Doug Scheffel. ofhttp://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070228/LOCAL/702280517&GID=80R/wxap48TtW8D3+o/4ckp8BtKJEnPOI/O0GqK7n4k%3D

Police say they're confident there was more than one person involved in this murder, and that the home was targeted. Now they hope a key piece of evidence taken from the home helps lead to the killers' capture.

During the murder-robbery, investigators say someone stole a large gun safe, five feet tall with gold trim, a combination lock and lever handle. It is significant because it weighs hundreds of pounds and would require two to three men to move it, say police.

"This is something that just can't be easily hidden in a backseat of a car. It would have taken a truck or van to haul this away," said Det. Lappin.

Listed as a cold case with the Indianapolis PD:

Seems like it has to be someone who knows this family or has been inside their home in order to see this gun cabinet. The home was targeted specifically for it. How shameful to kill this young mother and almost killing her young baby in order to steal this thing! It seems like they could trace where this cabinent ended up. I would think they wanted it so they could sale it....
