The Nevada County,CA sheriffs have recovered a body that has been found in the forest. They are saying that they think it is male, and called in the DOJ to do DNA and identifying info. The local newspaper ran the story this morning. This is posted for anyone looking for a missing person, I do not know anything about the case, just helping others.

Is this an area that's normally covered in snow? Just wondering because the person said they thought they smelled a dead animal and the police said that the body may have been there "for months". Seems like there would have been more decompostion or something.

I hope they find out who this person is.

12:01 a.m. PT Mar 26, 2007 The discovery of a badly decomposed, unidentified body Friday in rural Nevada County has triggered a homicide investigation because the body appeared to be intentionally covered with dirt, according to Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal.

"It looked like they made some attempt to cover the body," said Royal.

Deputies were unable to determine the age of the individual but it is believed to be a male, said Royal.

The body was discovered around 2:51 p.m. Friday by a man riding a quad on a roughly graded dirt road on Forest Service land, about three quarters of a mile south of the intersection of Highway 20 and Chalk Bluff Road.

The man stopped to investigate after smelling what he thought was a dead animal. He called the sheriff's dispatch and reported finding clothing and what appeared to be human remains.

The body had apparently been there for months.

Missing Persons Case Turns Homicide
Case# WCSO 07-
Secret Witness is offering a reward in the amount of $2,500.00 for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the suspect(s) wanted in connection with the homicide of a 39 year old Sun Valley resident, Joseph McMillan. On March 23, 2007 Washoe County Sheriff’s Office received a missing persons report indicating that McMillan had not been seen nor heard from for weeks. On April 2, 2007 Nevada County Sheriff’s Office advised that a body identified as only “John Doe” was found in a shallow grave in the area of Hwy 20 near Chalk Bluff Road. Washoe County Sheriff’s Office has since positively identified the body as that of Joseph McMillan.

On April 2, 2007, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office who advised of an unidentified body recovered off Highway 20 near Chalk Bluff Road. Washoe County Crime lab completed a DNA analysis of tissue from the body and determined the body was that of Joseph McMillan. McMillan, who had been reported as a missing person on March 23, 2007, had not been seen since January 19, 2007.
Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Detectives investigated the death of McMillan. Throughout the investigation numerous subjects were interviewed. A search warrant was obtained and detectives collected evidence linking Glenn Turner, 48, of Reno to McMillan’s murder.
It was determined that in January 2007, McMillan was killed in the 5000 block of Carrol Drive in Sun Valley, Nevada. His body was transported to Nevada County, California where it was placed in a shallow grave where it was later recovered.

Nevada County Sheriff's Office contacted Washoe County Sheriff's Office due to the victim's clothing having logos of businesses in the Reno, NV area. Our preliminary investigation suggested that the cause of death was a homicide.

Working closely with Washoe County, tentative identification was made early on, but positive identification was recently made through DNA testing

A 48-year-old Nevada man has been sentenced to two consecutive terms of life in prison without the possibility of parole in the shooting death of Joseph McMillan, whose body was found in April off of Chalk Bluff Road in Nevada County.

Glenn Turner of Sun Valley, Nev. was sentenced Tuesday by Washoe County Superior Court Judge Steven Kosach, the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office confirmed this morning.

Turner received two life terms because he pleaded guilty to first-degree murder with the use of a firearm in the killing of McMillan, District Attorney staff said.
