St. Albans man arrested on Florida murder charge

A St. Albans man has been arrested and charged with killing a man in Florida two years ago, Vermont State Police said Wednesday.

Dominic Coretto, 37, was arrested March 27 at his home at 7 Vivian Lane in St. Albans Town by detectives from the state police and two departments near Tampa. Coretto was apprehended the day after Florida authorities issued a warrant accusing him of one count of second-degree murder, Vermont State Police Sgt. John Flannigan said.

Two people were charged with beating a man to death in 2005, and one of them stepped forward to cooperate with authorities. He pleaded guilty, got a 23-year prison sentence and agreed to testify against the other guy.

But this week, the other guy was set free. A jury found Dominic Coretto, 40, not guilty of murdering Larry P. Sanders, 26, whose body had been dumped along the Courtney Campbell Parkway...

Clearwater police eventually learned Sanders had been brutally beaten inside of a duplex at 226 N Mars Ave., which was home to Samuel H. Robbins, the other man charged in the crime. Robbins, Sanders and Coretto were part of a group that used cocaine and knew each other through drug connections, police said at the time.
