    Amber Lynn Wilde
Missing since September 23, 1998 from Green Bay, Brown County, Wisconsin
    Classification: Endangered Missing

    Vital Statistics

Date Of Birth: March 26, 1979
Age at Time of Disappearance: 19 years old
Height and Weight at Time of Disappearance: 5'5"; 135-140 lbs.
Distinguishing Characteristics: White female. Reddish brown, long hair; brown eyes.
Marks, Scars: Eight piercings in each ear
Jewelry: Eight small gold hoop earrings in each ear.

    Circumstances of Disappearance

Amber was last seen in the evening at her residence in the vicinity of the 2000 block of August Street in Green Bay, WI.

Her 1988 Subaru GL was located, more than a week later, abandoned in a parking lot at a Green Bay sports bar, on the south side of Lombardi Access Road, near Lambeau Field in Green Bay, WI with her purse and cell phone in the trunk and the keys in the ignition. The last person to drive the car was likely larger than Amber, because the seat was pushed back from the steering wheel. There are also some fingerprints that investigators have not been able to identify.

Amber Wilde attended the University of Wisconsin-Washington County after graduating from Campbellsport High School. She had transferred to the local University of Wisconsin campus and had lived in Green Bay for only three weeks.
Amber was in a car accident the morning of Wednesday, September 23rd. She sustained a head injury in the accident when her head hit the windshield. She attended her classes, complaining of a headache.

Wilde last spoke with her family September 23 after the accident. She asked her father to call her the next day to make sure she got up for her class. When she did not answer, her father drove to Green Bay and reported her missing.

    more info

. . . More than a week after Wilde's disappearance, her car was discovered in the parking lot of a Green Bay sports bar. There was no sign of Wilde at the scene, but her purse and cellular phone were locked inside the trunk. Some evidence pertaining to her disappearance was also found in the vehicle, but police have not said what it was. Some authorities believe the car had not been at that location for the whole week. . . .
. . . There is some speculation that her case may be connected somehow to the 2003 disappearance of Areerat Chuprevich from Allouez, Wisconsin, but there is no evidence to support this theory. Both cases remain open and unsolved. . . .

. . . No. 1, we believe it can be solved," Zettel said. "We know that we have been lied to and we can prove that. There are people who basically have obstructed this investigation."
Months ago, the investigation began to focus on people in the Washington County area, where Wilde began college. Zettel declined to be more specific but said that police planned to "step up the investigation in the next month.". . .

. . . Amber's godmother and confidant, Laurie Ehnert, believes Amber's body lies somewhere along Highway 29 in Shawano County.
That is where tons of earth were moved during a major highway reconstruction project going on at the time Amber disappeared from Green Bay, said Ehnert, Wilde's daughter and Amber's aunt.
It is no coincidence, they said, that the father of the child Amber was carrying worked on the project at the time.. . .

what about the person whom she had an accident earlier in the day with? That sounds like it could have just been a way for him to get her phone number, address, or any other info. He also called her house that day to talk about the accident?

Just a thought......something to be further investigated....

jess J's article has a lot of information. Jess - do you agree that Amber's ex is potentially responsible? It would certainly follow the pattern we've seen in so many cases...

Wilde and Ehnert said Green Bay Police found Amber's diary under a mattress in Amber's bedroom. The two said they have not seen or been able to read the diary.
Police refer to the diary as a "bible" that holds clues to Amber's disappearance, they said.
Ehnert said she has been told by police that the diary has dates that Amber talked with the father of her child and what they talked about.
Details in the diary have led to the conclusion that Amber's disappearance was not a random act of violence, Ehnert said.

I would throw a flipping fit and try to get the specifics of that diary disclosed, at least to family or the PI after six years! OMG! For starters, I would have found it first and read it before LE ever got it. What a crock!

Jess, do you know anything about the diary?

    Possible break in Amber's case:

WITTENBERG Green Bay police searched a field in Shawano County Monday that they believe may contain evidence related to the case of Amber Wilde, a 19-year-old Campbellsport woman who disappeared in 1998.

A detective assigned to the case developed information recently and police were following through by searching the field, police said in a news release. The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay student was 4 months pregnant when she disappeared.

Green Bay police and the Shawano County Sheriff's Department are looking for evidence that may be located in the field.

At this time nothing has been found, police said. The field is about eight miles east of Wittenberg along Highway 29.

In spring 2001, police came up empty in a search for Wilde's body in the excavation area off Highway 29 that was filled with clay and topsoil at the time of her disappearance.

Wilde suffered a bump to the head in a fender bender on her way to school on Sept. 23, 1998. Fearing she may have a mild head injury, Wilde asked her father to call her the next day to make sure she got up for a 1 p.m. class.

When he couldn't reach his daughter by phone, Steve Wilde traveled to Green Bay and found her apartment locked and her purse and car gone.
