:banghead: Child's death a homicide, coroner says; person of interest" questioned

A 1-year-old Jackson boy who died hours after being taken to a hospital suffered blunt force trauma to the abdomen, according to an autopsy performed Wednesday evening.
The death of Alvondus Kyles of Jackson is considered a homicide, Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart said. The baby had both external and internal injuries, she said...more at link...

This is near my neck of the woods...his Mom is only 15...:(

Why did this baby's grandparents let their 16 yr old daughter date a twenty-something year old man anyway? And why did they allow him to watch the child instead of offering the girl help when she was trying to finish school?

There are so many questions and no answers in this case, they have said that the 22 year old is the childs father and today the mother of a 16 year old says her son is his father.

"The time I did spend with him, he was a loving, caring baby," says Brenda Collins, paternal grandmother of one-year-old Alvondus Kyles. Collins says she rarely saw the baby since he spent most of his time living in Wisconsin with other relatives"
Collins' son, Jim Hill High School Junior Ledarian Collins, is the father. The mother is Shimon Harris, a Wingfield High School student. "She shouldn't have dropped him off," Collins says of Shimon. "I'm at home every day. Why couldn't you drop him off at my house? If you dropped him off at my house, maybe the baby would still be alive."more...

Okay, calling in the pros here. I find no record of a trial for Zachariah Lacey for the death of Alvondus Kyles. I know there was some sort of inital hearing, possibly arraignment, because the families got in a fight. Other than that, nothing. I am wondering if they decided that he didn't do it? As far as I can tell, no one else has ever been charged for it. Help me out guys!

Sorry guys, must have been tired yesterday.

Zachariah Devontae Lacey is apparently still pre-trial and has been held at the Hinds County Jail since 05/05/2007.

Charge 1: Capital Murder
Charge 2: Felony Child Abuse

March 2011:

Zachariah Lacey last week pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2007 death of Alvondus Kyles, whom he was babysitting...

On the recommendation of special prosecutor Ashley Ogden, Hinds County Circuit Judge Tomie Green sentenced Lacey to 20 years in prison with 12 years suspended and eight to serve.

But Lacey could be free within four years because he was given credit for time served since 2007...

In explaining why he agreed to reduce the charge, [Prosecutor] Ogden said Lacey admitted he spanked Alvondus but had no intent to harm him.

Ogden said Lacey was attempting to hit the child on his buttocks when he missed and hit the child in the back, lacerating his liver.
