CA - Nabbed! One of FBI's Ten Most Wanted Arrested in Canada

Richard Steve Goldberg, one of FBI's Ten Most Wanted fugitives was arrested today in Montreal, QC, Canada. Apparently he had been living in Montreal under an assumed name for a few years. He was arrested at his apartment by a SWAT team following an anonymous tip and is being held without bail on Immigration charges while Californian authorities are rushing legal paperwork to Canada to have him extradited as soon as possible. Hopefully Canadian authorities won't want to keep such a sinister character within their borders any longer than necessary.

What a narly looking devil he is. I swear this is the man I have always written about here that I saw stare me down in Portland OR as the metro bus he was traveling in crept past me as I stood in the bus mall area. The same face, with a crazy and lecherous look in his eyes as they followed me until I was out of sight.

It was one of the most scary moments of my life, as the minute our eyes met, I knew he was a killer.

Call me crazy, no I am not. It was a real life experience for me. Very troubling at best! Scandi

Hell yeah. I'm surprised he avoided detection for so long, that man has a very distinctively creepy mug, not a face that blends in the crowd. I actually thought he was dead ever since he had been on the Top Ten for a few months because I was convinced someone would have recognized him if he was alive. I hope they'll publish a picture of him being hauled to court today (Monday), hopefully without a jacket on his head, to see how he managed to make himself less conspicuous. If you think you saw him well, you probably did. I doubt anyone else looks like him.

I guess someone in Montreal will soon welcome a $100,000 bonus, courtesy of the FBI

So does that mean there is now only a NINE MOST WANTED LIST?

I'm pretty sure I saw this guy's mug on Oprah on one of her shows about fugitive sexual predators. I wonder if the person who turned him in did as well? I'm glad they caught him.

Hard to say with any certainty however most news agencies report that the tip was received by Montreal PD and originated from a resident of that city. CNN in particular seem to be hinting that a counselor Goldberg was seeing (under an assumed identity) was the one who tipped off the authorities. No idea how CNN would know this though, perhaps a source at the FBI told them someone had already claimed the $100,000 reward.

He he he, make that Eight Most Wanted for the time being. Besides Goldberg another 'listee' (Shauntay Henderson) was arrested a month or so ago and her name still appears on the list with the mention "captured". There must be a "glory delay" before other fugitives can be promoted to the list, sort of like a For Sale sign with a SOLD banner across it in the real estate business. Arresting two TMW'ers on unrelated cases within a few weeks is a very if not extremely rare occurrence so I guess they'd want to advertise it for a few months.

I don't know why Henderson was on the TMW though, since the crime she is suspected of having committed is less than a year old and she had only been on the run for a few months. Not that a gang related murder is not a serious crime but there are plenty of hoods who didn't make the list that are wanted for worse offenses such as capital murder (Henderson was wanted for second-degree murder) and have been on the run for much longer. Usually the criteria required from a fugitive to make the list is being suspected of a very serious offense and having avoided capture for quite a long time. While some of the fugitives on the list aren't sought on murder charges all are facing very lengthy sentences. From what I read, if convicted Goldberg will likely be sentenced to life without parole.

FBI's Ten Most Wanted, isn't an actual number count of how many are on the list. It has become a figure of speach. Something there are a lot more than 10 on the list, and occassionally even fewer than 10.

It was my impression that the Ten Most Wanted are those among the FBI's list of hundreds of wanted fugitives whose cases have been prioritized for one reason or another. Specifically regarding Goldberg the state of California has long made it clear that they intend to use what will happen to him (if convicted) as a warning to would-be child rapists/pornographers that they may wish they got the death penalty instead. At least on Death Row other inmates can't eviscerate you alive. Even in protective custody bad karma can come to someone who has it coming.

Montreal — An American in Montreal who is on the FBI's Most Wanted list as a suspected pedophile was ordered deported Friday and will be heading back to California.

U.S. federal marshals are expected to take him back to the United States by next Friday.
