NY - This kid drove his car through the mall
Cops: Mall crasher was trying to reach ex-girlfriend
BY ZACHARY R. DOWDY
Dwight Thomas' attempt to see his ex-girlfriend, who worked at the Sunrise Mall in East Massapequa, turned into a bizarre rampage when he drove his car through the plate-glass window mall entrance, barely missing panicked customers and merchants and burst out another entrance, police said.
The 19-year-old Amityville man, who was arraigned Friday on a host of charges in First District Court in Hempstead, sped past shops and slammed into a kiosk as he negotiated a space barely larger than the width of his Toyota Corolla, officials said.
As Thomas pleaded not guilty to felony charges of criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and third-degree arson, Nassau police revealed his motive: He wanted to see his ex-girlfriend.
"He was going there to talk to her, but unfortunately, his method of doing it was criminal," said Sgt. Anthony Repalone, a police spokesman, in a news conference in Mineola.
At the arraignment, however, Thomas' attorney, Arthur Edwards, of Brooklyn, linked his client's actions to mental instability, saying, "He is on medication for mental health issues," but he did not elaborate. "We believe that this matter should be resolved out of the criminal setting."
When asked what her son was thinking during the mall rampage, Roxanne Thomas, 45, the suspect's mother, who was in court, said, "We don't know."

My son thinks he was acting out the mall scene from "Blues Brothers."
I think "mental issues" probably sums up the kids problems quite nicely; hopefully he won't be behind the wheel for a L O N G time, and hopefully he will come to fully realize how very, very blessed he is that he did not hurt, maim or kill anyone...

Thank god he didn't hurt anyone.. this reminds of that other case with the girl Louise in GA.. except she had victims.
