    TN - Kathleen Wrinkle, 27, Cleveland, 22 Feb 1956

Information mounts in 51-year-old cold case of missing woman

The last time Kathleen Wrinkle was seen was Feb. 22, 1956.

Wrinkle planned to go to Chattanooga for a job interview. She disappeared that day without a trace.

Eubanks’ theory is simple — “She is in Parksville Lake.”
Wrinkle could have crashed her car into the water near the dam, he said.

Eubanks recalled significant information he obtained during his initial investigation more than 51 years ago.

“Kathleen’s niece told her of a 10 p.m. curfew. The niece went to bed the night before. When she awoke, Kathleen had already left the apartment and had written a note explaining the plan for their day. One other strange item was the fact that when her niece got up, all of their belongings had been packed as if they were moving,” said Eubanks.

“So from 10 p.m. on Feb. 21, until around 5:20 the next morning, someone had packed all of their belongings. The niece did not indicate Kathleen had any plans for a move. The note explained to the niece that she was to go to school, then to Kathleen’s parents home to eat and in her own words, Kathleen wrote, ‘I will pick you up around 7 (p.m.) at the skate rink,’” added Eubanks.

Kathleen and her niece also reportedly discussed plans to go on a job hunt.

    Much more at link.

How sad that they haven't found her yet. Parksville Lake is absolutely gorgeous but to think of Kathleen down there all these years makes me sad. I hope that they do send divers and she is rescued after all these years.

I hope they find her too. It's an interesting case and very strange that all their belongings were packed for a move, but the niece didn't know anything about moving.

I wonder if the niece scared someone off when she woke up? This is a strange story.

Not so strange if they did not have a lot of belongings... if she had a hard lead on a job in Chattanooga she may have been counting on leaving quickly to report for a new job. It would not have necessarily been hard to find a new place to live the same day (my own grandmother tells of going, in a fit of pique, out on her lunch hour and renting a bachelorette apartment to move out of her sister's place when she was a young lady, and moving in that evening.

Investigators Search Lake for Missing Woman's Car

Kathleen Wrinkle disappeared 50 years ago, presumably in a car accident.

Heavy rain did not stop Bradley and Polk County investigators from seeking closure for her family. Search and rescue volunteers from both counties put their new underwater sonar camera to use, trying to find Ms. Wrinkle's 1951 Chevrolet. She disappeared 50 years ago as she drove along this stretch of road.
At this time no one suspects foul play but investigators have not ruled that out. Deputies say to this day, many people in the area still remember the case.

You'd think while they were down there in the lake in 1957, they could have taken the time to check on the other vehicles. At least bring up a license plate or description...something. It's hard to think about her mother suffering needlessly for all those years if they could have found her car back then.

Inclement weather halts search for Wrinkle’s car at Parksville Lake

    July 3, 2007

On Monday, Kathleen Wrinkle would have celebrated her 78th birthday. Lt. Jamie Lewis, who is a technical rescue specialist with West Polk Fire and Rescue along with members of the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office , was looking for her in Parksville Lake Monday.

An underwater camera was dropped into the water Monday afternoon, then heavy rains moved across the lake, putting a halt to the operation due to the sensitive monitoring system, according to Lewis.

Officials hope to return to the site next week.

Coultry said his investigation revealed Wrinkle attended dances at the YMCA Camp, at a place named Wasson’s Lodge.

“She had a fiancé. Dewayne Jones was in the military and stationed in South Carolina. They reportedly attended the dances sponsored by the YWCA at Wasson’s Lodge.

Eubanks’ investigation into the 1956 disappearance revealed she was driving a 1954 Chevrolet BelAir. The black and yellow car bearing Tennessee tag 19-3841 was never seen again.

Divers Search For Bradley Woman Missing Over 51 Years

This article has a picture of Kathleen.

6 cars found in lake in search for missing woman

Divers now will have to search the bottom of the Polk County lake to see if any of the unidentified cars resemble Kathleen Wrinkle's black & yellow 1951 Chevrolet Bel Air.

Piecing together details of Wrinkle's disappearance is difficult because many of the original police records were ruined by water damage.

Wow! They should also see if the cars appeared to have been junked, or if they were accidents! Maybe she's not the only disappearance that can be solved!

I've been following this very closely and hoping so much that they find her car. 51 years! It'd be wonderful to close this case.

they determined that 6 of the vehicles were not hers but a seventh could not be positively identified because it was so murky.
Gault said nothing has been ruled out.

Wonder what the circumstances of the cars are? Stolen, wrecked....?

I think our waterways and lakes probably have dozens of answers in them.
