Cops Suspect Foul Play in Disappearance of Arizona Teen

QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. — A 17-year-old Queen Creek girl is missing, and authorities in Arizona suspect foul play.

Amber is described as being white, 5'2", 145 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. She has double piercings in both ears, as well as a bellybutton piercing. She was last seen wearing blue shorts and a white tank top.

Her missing car is a white 2002 four-door Mitsubishi Lancer with Arizona license plate 329-RJN.It has a Playboy or similar insignia on the rear window.

Deputies said they found blood in the home and a gun missing. Amber's car was also gone.

Family members told CBS 5 News that Amber has never disappeared before and that it's out of character for her to lose contact with her parents. Her grandfather told CBS 5 that Amber does not have a boyfriend and her family has no idea where she could be.

Amber's parents issued an emotional plea on Monday for her safe return.

Pinal County Sheriff's officials said Monday they couldn't positively identify Amber LeAnn Hess, 17, although items at the scene are linked to her family's house where there were blood and other signs of violence in the kitchen.

“The two things are definitely connected,” said Chief Deputy Jerald Monahan.

Hess is still officially listed as missing.

Officials said Monday they believe she was attacked by an acquaintance.

Deputies are still looking for Hess's car, a white 2002 four-door Mitsubishi Lancer, which they think will yield more evidence.

The car belonging to a missing teen from Queen Creek is now in Pinal County Sheriff’s Department custody. It was found Monday night around 9pm by a sheriff’s deputy responding to a tip from the public. The car was located in a desert area a few miles from where a deputy located a still unidentified body earlier Monday.

The body had been burned and dental records will be used to make an identification.

Family Almost Certain Teen Is Dead

The mother of a missing Queen Creek teen told CBS 5 News on Tuesday that her family is almost certain 17-year-old Amber Hess is dead.

A tearful Candy Hess said that although it has not been confirmed, the Hess family is 95 percent sure that a burned body found in the desert Monday afternoon is that of her daughter.

What a terrible ordeal for Amber's family. I hope they find out quickly how did this.

Have to wonder if this was a kidnapping by a stranger or if an aquaintance kidnapped her and killed her?
 
LE seem to think that it was someone that she knew. Why would anyone do something so horrible to this young girl? What in the world did they have to gain by killing her and then setting her on fire...I hope she was dead when they set her on fire. It is so horrible for her family to have to cope with this terrible tragedy.

Her mom said that she didn't have a boyfriend but I wonder if somehow kids found out that she was home alone over the weekend or if she let kids know that she was home alone and someone showed up at her house that wasn't a friend. How would someone have known that there was a gun in the house or have known where to find it? Maybe the killer had been there before?

I hope the killer is found really fast. I'll bet it is some kid from her school or maybe even more then one kid.
 
I'm wondering if Amber knew about the gun and tried to protect herself with it and the perp used it on her.
 
Two 16 year olds were arrested Wednesday in connection with the killing of 17 year old Amber Hess.

Pinal County Sheriff Chris Vasquez says an autopsy confirms that a burned body found Monday in a desert area near Florence was that of the missing girl.

Vasquez says the two suspects apparently had planned the murder and that for some reason they didn't like Hess.

Oh this is just heartbreaking. She just graduated from high school and these teens did this to her. They plan to charge them as adults. omg
 
Two teen boys were arrested on suspicion of murdering Queen Creek teen Amber Hess, Pinal County Sheriff Chris Vasquez told several media outlets.

The 16-year-olds made statements that led detectives to believe they took part in the killing of Hess, 17, whose burned body was found in the desert near Florence on Monday. Her identity has been positively identified using dental records, Vasquez said.

The suspects and Hess were acquaintances, Vasquez said.

"Basically they just didn't like her and for whatever reason were planning to kill her," Vasquez said. "They went to her home and through a combination of stabbing and choking, killed her."
